Interviews

Sabrina Nicosia. National Marketing Director at GreedyGiver. Triple Bottom Line Business.

Sabrina is the National Marketing Director at GreedyGiver, Canada’s first daily deal site with a charitable twist (if a daily deal and a crowdfunding site had a child, it would be the GreedyGiver). Working for a new socially responsible company, Sabrina loves the challenge of using her marketing skills as a force for good. With a background in advertising, Sabrina is responsible for marketing GreedyGiver to Canadians. Sabrina reminds us that when you believe in the cause you can be meaningful and make money at the same time.

Can you describe your job in a nutshell?
I am the National Marketing Director for GreedyGiver.com – Canada’s first fundraising site that uses exclusive offers from socially responsible brands to raise money for worthy causes.

How did you get your current meaningful job?
I am one of the founding partners of the company, so naturally I was a shoe in.

How did your past life and work experiences help get to where you are today?
I worked in the advertising industry (agency side) for about 8 years. Great experience in terms of marketing strategy & creative process. But I didn’t like working on brands that I didn’t believe in. Tapping into people’s psyche only to exploit it made me feel yucky.

What’s the most fulfilling part of your work?
I know I should be saying: raising money for worthy causes. And that’s definitely part of it. But I think the most fulfilling thing for me is that we are creating something totally new & innovative. We’re essentially merging the world of daily deals and crowdfunding together to create a new hybrid model that works for everyone. It’s pretty cool.

What advice would you give someone looking to get a meaningful job?
You choose your employer as much as they choose you. Don’t accept a job that isn’t the right fit. Something else will come along. You’ll be doing yourself (and the employer) a favour in the long run.

What’s one thing people might not expect to find on your resume?
That I bartended in some of the craziest nightclubs throughout university and during the first few years of my advertising career.

What’s one trend you are seeing that will impact your sector in the next 5 years?
That companies and society in general are much more socially aware than ever before. Kindness and compassion are becoming the norm. It’s not just a fad – it’s a new way of being in the world.

If you could have one super hero power that would help you do your job better what would it be-and why?
Super human speed. So I can get more done in the day!

Great stuff guys. Cudos to you Sabrina, and to you guys at Bmeaningful. I understand now what it means to choose your employer as much as they choose you. This is not saying anything about my current employer, but more looking forward to the next step that will lead down a more meaningful path. I hope to be in a position one day to wish for a different super power. I would choose flight, to get to places that I would never reach by ground. Maybe one day I will want super speed like sabrina to get more done on the ground.

    All the best to you!
