Position Summary:
Are you passionate about inspiring storytelling for a wonderful cause? The Foundation is looking for an experience digital communications professional who will elevate the digital personality of the brand and bring their heart and passion to a mission-based environment.
Reporting to the Director, the Digital Marketing, the Digital Content and Marketing Specialist is responsible for digital content creation on web, email marketing and all social media. As part of the Marketing and Communications (Marcom) team, you will plan, execute, track and report on digital marketing activities to achieve The Foundation’s brand awareness, engagement and fundraising goals.
The responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Content creation
- Research and write compelling copy primarily for digital channels with a focus on social media, email and web, as well as internal channels within the Hamilton Health Sciences network (HHS Daily Dispatch, HHS Share).
- Create, design and produce engaging, visual content (images, infographics, video, reels) primarily for digital channels – both owned and paid media.
- Create and manage content for digital screens at Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) sites.
- Align digital content with The Foundation’s mission, vision, values, and creed.
- Ensure that brand standards, messaging and style guidelines are adhered to in all content and that digital content is presented in an appealing and professional manner.
- Support the management of the content calendar.
Social media and community management
- Lead for all social media platforms including: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube.
- Publish content across all social media platforms.
- Monitor, respond to and engage with our audiences in a timely manner across social media platforms in accordance with Foundation guidelines.
- Support Children’s Miracle Network/Canada’s Children’s Hospital Foundations and corporate partners on social media when required.
- Lead for social media coverage at signature events such as MacKids Walk & Wheel, Illuminight and the annual gala.
- Monitor Facebook Fundraising initiatives, as well as other social-based fundraising.
Email marketing
- Create and deploy email-marketing campaigns, including automated drip campaigns (triggered and recurring).
- Run A/B testing and optimization.
- Support audience segmentation and list management for email deployment.
Other
- Track and report social media, email and website metrics to assist in identifying trends and opportunities for optimization.
- Support monthly and quarterly data reporting.
- Incorporate both on-page and off-page SEO principles to build the Foundation’s visibility online.
- Propose creative and innovative ideas to drive engagement and conversions (donate, fundraise, or register for an event).
- Stay up to date on digital marketing best practice, as well as the latest developments and trends.
- Act as a digital marketing subject matter expert for internal team members.
- Work collaboratively across The Foundation to conceptualize, research, and create impactful content.
- Actively promote, participate in, and be an ambassador for the Foundation’s fundraising activities
- Prioritize and keep multiple projects moving in a timely manner, meet deadlines and manage expectations.
- Contribute to other marketing and communications projects as needed.
Candidate Qualifications:
- Post-secondary diploma/degree, preferably in digital marketing, multimedia, web design, communications, or relevant field. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Three (3) years’ experience in digital marketing and content creation for email, web and social media.
- A compelling writer/editor and an effective storyteller who can skillfully adapt messaging for different audiences and channels.
- Strong knowledge of brand development and brand reputation, and working within brand guidelines.
- Ability to condense and package information in a visually appealing and logical manner.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with meticulous attention to detail to deliver high-quality content in a changing environment with multiple conflicting demands.
- Is data-oriented and champions a test-learn-optimize approach.
- Strong communication, problem solving, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Understands the need for professionalism, tact, diplomacy, discretion and patience when communicating externally with donors, patients, volunteers and the public online as well as across The Foundation and HHS.
- Team player with demonstrated ability to work independently with minimum supervision and an ability to self-manage effectively.
- Working knowledge of relevant legislation (AODA, CASL).
- Experience within the nonprofit sector, health care, or hospital foundation considered an asset.
Technical Qualifications:
- Proficiency in MS Office Programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), and various video conferencing and project management tools and programs (i.e., Monday.com).
- Experience using Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud (for PC InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop).
- Experience with social media management software (Sprout Social, Hootsuite, or similar) and social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube, as well as their insights/analytics tools and ad campaign capabilities.
- Experience with email platforms (Mailchimp, Blackbaud Luminate Online, or similar)
- Familiarity with Google Analytics, Google Search Console and SEO best practice.
- Additional assets would include familiarity with website platforms/Content Management Systems (Webflow, Wordpress or similar), and photography and basic video editing.

Accountability: Direct: Director, Digital Marketing / Vice President, Marketing and Communications
Functional Relationships: HHSF Leadership and Staff Teams; General Public (Donors, Patients, community members, hospital staff) through digital engagement
Office Location:
- Location of work is 1 King St. West, Hamilton ON. Remote and Flex may be accommodated after three months of employment based on approval of VP.
Working Conditions and Mandatory Requirements:
- Travel is required as the position will irregularly visit various locations such as Hamilton Health Science sites, event locations, etc.
- The nature of the work is such that minimal evening and weekend work is required to attend events.
- Proof of full COVID vaccination is mandatory for employment with Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation in accordance with Hamilton Health Sciences policy.
Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is between $50,000 and $55,000, commensurate with experience. HHSF provides a competitive benefit package and pension plan (HOOPP).
