General Accountant

Full Time

With a demonstrated commitment to the Mission, Vision, and Values of Good Shepherd, the General Accountant works as a member of a dynamic team of individuals that provide accounting support to the whole organization. Reporting to the Manager of Finance, this position is responsible for the processing of accounts payable and accounts receivable, coding of invoices, government remittances, management of donations, monthly recurring journal entries, bank reconciliations and GL account reconciliations to ensure reporting requirements and deadlines are achieved. The General Accountant also provides backup of multiple accounting functions, assists with the preparation of year-end working papers for annual audit, and works on special finance projects and reports as required.

The position requirements include 3 to 5 years of general full cycle accounting work experience, a university or college degree in accounting or finance, familiarity with GAAP and CRA donation regulations, and proficiency with accounting software and advanced Excel functions. Experience working in the non-profit charitable sector, using Dynamics Great Plains and Raiser’s Edge software, and current enrollment in the CPA program are all considered assets. Attention to detail, strong analytical and problem solving skills, the ability to multi-task in a fast paced work environment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to establish positive working relationships are all essential competencies.
