ABOUT US: 

The Metro Vancouver Consortium (TMVC) is made up of four member organizations which support sex workers of all genders and backgrounds across the lower mainland: Aboriginal Front Door Society (AFDS), Health Initiative for Men (HIM), PACE Society (PACE), and WISH Drop-In Centre Society (WISH). Funded by Public Safety Canada with contributions from the City of Vancouver, TMVC delivers Transitions which supports sex workers in Metro Vancouver to transition into safer sex work, and/or reduce their reliance on, transition out of, or retire from sex work altogether. Through a continuum of service delivery, Transitions aims to connect participants to programs and supportive employment opportunities; decrease systemic barriers; and actively reduce the stigma of sex work in Metro Vancouver.

 

THE POSITION:

Reporting to The Metro Vancouver Consortium (TMVC), the Transitions Program Coordinator supports the development, implementation and growth of Transitions. The Transitions Program Coordinator is responsible for facilitating collaboration of Consortium members, community partners and funders; while supporting the delivery of Transitions services and managing the administrative, financial, evaluation and reporting functions of the Transitions program on behalf of TMVC.

 

ABOUT YOU:

You are a dynamic leader with proven community development experience and ability to manage and administer large-scale projects. You are an intersectional feminist working through an anti-oppressive, decolonial lens with a broad understanding of issues facing equity seeking groups. You are experiential and/or have a strong history of working in solidarity with a broad diversity of sex workers.

 

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Support & Community Development

  • Proactively develop opportunities to advocate for issues and themes impacting sex work and sex workers (including those identified through the work of the Service Coordinators), and proactively develop opportunities to de-stigmatize sex work;
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with sex work support organizations, sex workers, community organizations, service providers, housing providers, policy makers, elected officials, funding bodies and other relevant stakeholders to advance TMVC’s mission and vision;
  • Facilitate effective and motivating communication, collaboration, and team building among all  Consortium members;
  • Facilitate monthly meetings with the Consortium Steering Committee and Service Coordinators to discuss and review the progress of the program, identify emerging themes, trends and progress, discuss participant needs, and share learnings;
  • Provide ongoing mentorship and support to all Transitions Service Coordinators by fostering collaboration, team building, individualized guidance, and debriefing;
  • Consult with and facilitate regular community advisory meetings, including seeking out relevant stakeholders to serve as advisory members;
  • Promote Transitions to participants, service providers and potential employers;
  • Develop, design and review promotional material (website, brochures, banners, Twitter, etc.); ensure Transitions website and Twitter accounts are current;
  • Manage and lead event planning

Financial and Administrative

  • Manage a $2.5 Million, 5-year  federal grant (concluding February, 2022) under Public Safety Canada and a $16,500 City of Vancouver grant; prepare budget and financial forecasts; monitor project budgets and expenditures;
  • In collaboration with TMVC Steering Committee, develop grant proposals for additional funding;
  • Maintain internal financial controls including financial approvals, processing of monthly expense claims, and budget monitoring;
  • Ensure compliance of records and documentation for audit purposes;
  • Monitor progress towards achieving project outcomes;
  • Develop and strengthen monitoring and evaluation procedures;
  • Liaise and communicate with funders and evaluators;
  • Responsible for all funder-required monthly, quarterly and year-end financial and narrative reporting;
  • Liaise and monitor contractors, including external consultants; respond to requests for information and provide direction as necessary

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Synergy with TMVC mission, vision, and core values;
  • Expertise and long-standing connections in the sex work and sex work activism community, as well as the non-profit service delivery community;
  • Extensive experience with program coordination and facilitation, and a demonstrated ability to provide de-briefing, support, mediation, and other related team support;
  • Good knowledge of payroll requirements, general ledger, journal entries, and bookkeeping processes within the non-profit sector;
  • Proficiency with small accounting software, i.e. QuickBooks Online/Sage Simply Accounting, as well as ability to prepare reports using Microsoft Excel;
  • Able to develop and implement internal financial and administrative processes and procedures;
  • Excellent leadership skills, ability to lead a team and project toward the strategic development and coordination of partnerships while accurately representing the needs of the sex work community;
  • A developed understanding of the needs of the sex work community and clients accessing Transitions services;
  • Lived experience in sex work is considered an asset;
  • Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy a must;
  • Responsible, reliable and self-motivated individual who is both a team player as well as able to work on tasks independently of others;
  • Exceptional ability to be non-judgmental and approachable; exceptional proven team-building ability combined with excellent verbal and written communication skills

 

COMPENSATION AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Excellent benefits package including employee insurance (medical, dental, life, accident and long term disability, MSP) following a three-month waiting period;
  • This position provides flexibility to be mobile, working remotely, in community, and between all four member organizations;
  • This is a 32 hour/ week position with an hourly rate of $30/hour;
  • This is a one-year contract position, renewable based on availability of  funding
