About this position

Temporary, full-time position (from February 1, 2020 to January 31, 2022) – Guelph, ON

The Alumni Affairs and Development (AA&D) team supports the University of Guelph’s mission to improve life and has been charged with two ambitious goals: raising unprecedented annual philanthropic support; and being one of Canada’s most sought-after advancement organizations. As Analyst III, Reporting Analysis, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with project team members that are catalysts to AA&D success.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Information Services, you’ll serve as the conduit between the client community (internal and external clients) for the delivery of data outputs required to meet business requirements, with a significant focus on supporting Annual Giving data and reporting needs. Along with helping users obtain and digest CRM data specifics based on their own objectives, you’ll use the full suite of the SQL Server skills matrix to streamline data between our transactional and data warehouse repositories. This calls for a specific skillset related to the financial and revenue outputs that require advanced SQL scripting as well as data analytics tools such as R, RStudio, Python and SAS for regression analysis on large, complex data sets. Previous experience in an advancement setting, and with tools to create reports and data visualization, would be an asset.

Attention to details is essential, as data is used for a wide range of efforts, including fundraising, stewardship, events and critical business KPIs, and all output is also used to formulate data-driven decisions by business users. This reporting analyst role provides critical assistance in the day-to-day business data consumption as well as in creating a repository where data can be mined for trends and other quantitative research objectives.

To assume the role of Analyst III, Reporting Analysis, you must combine technical skill sets with the ability to work collaboratively in an advancement environment, and possess:

  • An undergraduate degree in a related field and several years’ experience in a reporting or analytical role.

  • SQL Server skillset, specifically T-SQL, OLAP, ETL configuration, optimization, stored procedure, triggers, constraints, scripting, SSIS, SSRS, logical design (schema).
  • Ability to critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources into specific details and/or processes for our CRM system and end-users.
  • Understanding of application life cycle design and enterprise-level testing.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, adaptability, communication and relationship-building skills.

Experience using Blackbaud CRM 4.0 software within an Advancement (Fundraising) environment would be a great asset.
