Broad Reach Foundation for Youth Leaders (Broad Reach Canada) is a registered Canadian charity founded in 1998, dedicated to providing experiential education, skills development, and a sense of belonging through sailing. We serve youth from underrepresented communities by fostering inclusion, equity, and personal growth.The Sustainability Officer plays a vital role in advancing Broad Reach’s mission by leading fundraising strategies that drive sustainable revenue. This includes cultivating new and existing relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporations, and government funders. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in donor stewardship, major gift solicitation, and grant writing, and will be instrumental in developing a long-standing fundraising pipeline. Reporting to the CEO, the Sustainability Officer will contribute to long-term financial sustainability by securing multi-year gifts, and donations, and designing innovative engagement initiatives that align with our values and impact.
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Sustainability Officer to lead our fundraising strategy and secure critical financial support for Broad Reach’s mission and programming. This role is ideal for a seasoned fundraising professional who has successfully secured significant multi-year gifts, built enduring donor relationships, and delivered measurable revenue growth in the non-profit sector.The Sustainability Officer will oversee all aspects of our fundraising efforts, including donor stewardship, corporate and foundation partnerships, sponsorship development, grant writing, and major gifts. They will design and implement a sustainable fundraising pipeline aligned with our strategic goals and ensure the long-term financial resilience of our organization.
What You’ll Do
Fundraising Strategy & Execution- Lead and execute fundraising strategies to grow revenue from individuals, foundations, corporations, and government sources;
- Identify, cultivate, and solicit major gift prospects and donors with a focus on multi-year giving;
- Develop and manage an active portfolio of high-value donors and prospects;
- Build and maintain a robust grant and sponsorship pipeline, ensuring timely submission of compelling proposals and reports;
- Strengthen relationships with existing donors through thoughtful engagement, impact reporting, and personalized stewardship strategies;
- Create recognition programs that acknowledge donor contributions and deepen their connection to the organization,
- Increase planned giving commitments through targeted outreach and education.
- Design and oversee endowment, planned giving, and capital campaigns;
- Collaborate with the CEO to develop strategic fundraising priorities and translate organizational needs into funding opportunities;
- Utilize data and insights to refine approaches, set goals, and report outcomes.
- Serve as the organization’s fundraising expert, supporting the CEO, board, and staff in donor engagement activities;
- Write and review grant applications, sponsorship decks, case statements, and other fundraising communications with clarity, accuracy, and impact;
- Maintain donor records and pipelines in fundraising databases.
What You Bring
Required Qualifications- Minimum 5 years of progressive fundraising experience, ideally in a nonprofit or charitable organization;
- Demonstrated success in securing and stewarding major gifts, grants, and multi-year commitments;
- Proven ability to develop and execute fundraising strategies with measurable outcomes;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with exceptional storytelling and proposal writing abilities;
- Superior interpersonal and relationship-building skills with donors, funders, and partners;
- Experience working independently and collaboratively within a cross-functional team;
- High level of initiative, integrity, and professionalism;
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines;
- Proficiency with donor management systems (CRM), Microsoft Office Suite, and project tracking tools;
- Access to a reliable vehicle.
Assets
- CFRE designation or equivalent certification;
- Familiarity with Raiser's Edge/NXT, Unison, or similar donor management platforms;
- Experience with capital campaigns and endowment/planned giving program design;
- Understanding of Imagine Canada Accreditation standards and policy development.
