DEVELOPMENT OFFICER, CORPORATE PARTNERSHIPS

Location: Toronto – University Ave and Dundas St. W.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Development Officer is responsible for developing deep partnerships with corporations across several revenue streams which include philanthropic gifts, cause marketing, sponsorships, employee engagement and gift in kind. This advancement team member will be responsible for identifying, prospecting, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding a portfolio of 200 donors and growing the annual revenue of the portfolio based on team targets. They will also lead the coordination of the corporate activations in collaboration with internal team members.
Primary Deliverables:

  • Be an active partnership developer allocating a minimum of  30% of your time on donor-facing, external activities
  • Develop annual work plan to meet or exceed annual revenue targets, in collaboration with AVP
  • Build long-term donor relationships to meet or exceed annual revenue targets and implement and report on programs
  • Conduct 8 to 10 portfolio calls per week
  • Build pipeline through prospect identification of 35 or more new prospects per year
  • Be a team player by embracing and consistently enacting organizational values of respect, caring, integrity and partnership, supported by being authentic and accountable to yourself and your team

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Working in collaboration with AVP, Philanthropy & Partnerships and other team members, the Development Officer manages the portfolio of national corporate partnerships ensuring that the business objectives of both Kids Help Phone and their corporate partners are achieved
  • Prepares donor correspondence, briefing notes, proposals, call reports, and other materials as required for portfolio activities
  • Works with the Donor Relations & Services teams on gift processing to ensure that appropriate letters, tax receipts, invitations, and other correspondence are sent in a timely manner
  • Manages prospect pipeline and tracks performance and reports progress monthly
  • Supports regional advancement team members with local corporate development strategy and program development
  • Develops and implements Kids Help Phone’s annual corporate partnership summit in Toronto and other cities, liaising with key individuals internally and externally, etc.
  • Works in conjunction with National Events Team to coordinate national sponsor details for the Walk so Kids Can Talk presented by BMO
  • Monitors market to identify new corporate opportunities; identifies new corporate prospects, researches companies, helps to cultivate relationships and develops presentations and proposals
  • Performs regular financial review of corporate revenues; contributes to the development of the annual budget and plans with the Director
  • Proactively seeks and shares knowledge of corporate social responsibility and fundraising trends through networking and research
  • In conjunction with Corporate Partnership team members, develops and maintains tools, templates and resources that support corporate partner growth
  • Ensures that Kids Help Phone’s sponsorship policy and corporate development standards are adhered to, and assists staff and volunteers with interpretation and rationale
  • Actively engages with volunteers in advancement activities
  • Positively represents KHP in the community

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Undergraduate or college degree in Business, Marketing or Fund Development
  • A minimum of 2 years business or relevant volunteer experience demonstrating fundraising mindset
  • Demonstrated track record in corporate gift solicitation and managing project-based activities
  • Demonstrated experience working across marketing channels and staying current with business and marketing news
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills including proposal writing and presentations
  • Demonstrated track record of managing project based activities, with meticulous attention to detail and anticipation what is needed next
  • Entrepreneurial, creative, strategic minded and energetic
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including effective networking, relationship building and active listening skills
  • Ability to identify business development opportunities
  • Understanding of sector trends in corporate social responsibility/community investment and sponsorship
  • Excellent organizational skills to determine work priorities and manage multiple projects in a fast paced environment and work under deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Demonstrated tact, diplomacy, and interpersonal skills to liaise with senior management, staff, corporate contacts and donors
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products, Raiser’s Edge and electronic databases.
  • Ability to clearly articulate the mission and priorities of Kids Help Phone
  • Ability to align donor interests with approved funding priorities/case for support
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and provide superior customer service and apply sound judgment when dealing with donors and volunteers
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle as travel may be required
