Grand Challenges Canada (GCC) is seeking a Program Analyst to play a critical role in supporting the implementation and coordination of seed and transition to scale investments. The Options for Pregnancy Termination Initiative (OPTions) supports innovation in access to- and new methods of pregnancy termination.

GCC funds innovation at two phases of development:
• Seed: to test that innovations can function as designed (i.e. proof-of-concept).
• Transition-to-Scale (TTS): to catalyze the scale and sustainability of tested innovations, including those that have been funded by GCC as well as other trusted partners, using a combination of grant and non-grant financing.

Options for Pregnancy Termination Initiative (OPTions): Since its launch in 2019, the OPTions Initiative has invested over $4.5 M (with an additional similar investment in negotiation) in 40 seed investments in 21 countries. In 2021, this portfolio aims establish itself by diversifying its donor base, and make additional investments in high promise seed innovations to accelerate transition to scale.

Under the direction of the Program Officer and working closely with the Program's Team, the Program Analyst works to ensure efficient, high quality coordination of a range of programmatic activities for the OPTions portfolio. The Program Analyst will support engagement with partners, innovators and contractors at all stages of innovation sourcing and investment/contract management (i.e. sourcing, opportunity development, negotiation, and post-deal execution), mitigate risk and raise issues with the OPTions Program Officer and/or Management as necessary. Key responsibilities include:
  • Supporting the development of Requests for Proposals (including outreach to maximize reach)
  • Coordinating application intake and review processes, and negotiation processes for new grants and contracts
  • Coordinating the monitoring and close-out of existing grants and contracts
  • Synthesizing key data to produce compelling donor and management reports
  • Contributing to knowledge management and translation of project and programmatic data; includes data entry and data management
  • Acting as point of contact for program and project-level information for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Answering project-related questions from grantees (i.e innovators) and contractors (typically people who support innovators)
  • Supporting quality improvement and streamlining processes cross-departmentally
  • Coordinating and supporting execution of program-related activities including innovator outreach to complete reporting requirements, triaging reports received for approvals, and processing contract amendments
  • Providing other programmatic and organizational support required as needed

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline or recognized equivalent required; relevant life experience
  • Program support and/or project coordination and/or grant administration experience required
  • Project Management experience preferred; certification an asset
  • Experience working in a fast-paced start-up an asset
  • Demonstrated proficiency with word-processing, database and spreadsheet software (including but not limited to the Microsoft Office suite)
  • Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of relevant domains (e.g., global health, mental health, sexual and reproductive health, youth and adolescent health, international development, social finance/impact investing)
 • Demonstrated commitment to impact; proactive, balancing planning and execution
 • Demonstrated problem solving skills
 • Excellent organizational and time management skills
 • Highly developed interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work well independently and within a team
 • Excellent verbal and written communications skills; working knowledge of French an asset; experience working cross-culturally an asset
