As the Managing Lead, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of an Anti-Racism Program for The City of Calgary. Building on the equity, diversity, and inclusion work already underway at The City, you will oversee components of work related to the Notice of Motion passed by Council in June 2020, entitled Calgary’s Commitment to Anti-Racism. You will supervise a team of dedicated professionals and collaborate with senior leaders, community stakeholders and the Anti-Racism Action Committee to collectively guide and develop The City’s strategic commitment to identify and address factors that might contribute to racism within the organization, and across the community.

Primary duties include:

  • Oversee the development of the program, including communication and engagement frameworks; risk management plans; procurement strategies; and decision-making and conflict resolution frameworks.
  • Collaborate with The City’s Executive Leadership Team(ELT), external consultants, and key internal stakeholders to lead the review of City internal practices and policies using an equity, diversity and inclusion lens.
  • Ensure alignment with and integration of public safety anti-racism actions by working closely with City leaders, and the leadership of Calgary Police Commission, Calgary Police Service, and the Public Safety Task Force.
  • Work closely with citizens and community stakeholders and leaders to identify anti-racism priorities and co-create the development of an anti-racism strategy for The City of Calgary.
  • Engage with community leaders to identify opportunities for The City to collaborate on anti-racism community activities/projects/strategies that address structural racism.

Qualifications:

Your resume and cover letter must clearly describe how you meet the following qualifications.

  • A graduate degree and a minimum of 8 years’ related experience, including at least 5 years in progressive leadership roles that involved the direct supervision of professional staff. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience must include advancing or supporting anti-racism initiatives and creating and implementing programs which address systemic or structural racism or discrimination. 
  • Lived experience as a member of a marginalized group or experience working with and as an ally to persons from marginalized groups is required. 
  • Expertise in equity, diversity and inclusion, anti-racism, power and privilege, accessibility, or human rights work. 
  • Demonstrated political acumen, strategic thinking skills, the ability to develop collaborative and productive working relationships, and the ability to deal with ambiguity. 
  • Is an inclusive leader, with the ability to lead and develop others and lead change and innovation. Pre-employment Requirements

Union: Exempt

Position Type: Temporary (Up to 24 months)

Compensation: Unrated Level H-$110,947-176,864 per annum

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week

Days of Work: This position works a 5 day work week with 1day off in a 3 week cycle.
