Nature and Scope:
The Shelter Manager strives to realize Anduhyaun’s mandate by leading the Shelter team in providing culturally sensitive, client based services and programs.
Job Description:
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Shelter Manager is responsible for achieving and maintaining high standards in the overall delivery of client services. The Shelter Manager will oversee a team of staff and ensure services are provided to clients from a trauma-informed and culturally appropriate lens, in accordance with Anduhyaun’s mandate. This position is responsible for meeting all reporting, quality assurance, and programming requirements.
Shelter Manager Responsibilities:
Administrative
- Oversee day-to-day activities of the shelter including programming, operations, and services
- Adhere to shelter regulations and guidelines such as Ministry of Children, Community, and Social Services (MCCSS) standards, IPAC health and safety, municipal site visits, rooming license requirements, and internal policies and procedures
- Submit regular reports to the Program Manager, Executive Director, and MCCSS
- Liaise with MCCSS and the municipality regarding client housing, rooming license, etc.
- Connect with community networks for shelter supports such as the Violence Against Women Network (VAWN)
- Work with the Executive Director on the new shelter project
- Manage operations of the shelter including maintenance, landlord relations with the City, contractors, security, and supplies
- Work within a budget, approve invoices, and assist financial team as needed
Leadership
- Supervise unionized Residential Counsellors and Sexual Assault Counsellor
- Supervise Shelter Assistant and Transitional Support Coordinator
- Adhere to the Collective Agreement, liaise with Union representative, participate in labour management meetings, bargaining negotiations, and other Union matters as needed
- Manage staff scheduling, timesheets, evaluations, interviews, conflicts, and similar duties
- Ensure regular staff meetings occur, support professional development, and maintain personnel files
Qualifications/Experience:
- Shelter Management experience in leading teams in a unionized environment
- Bachelor of Social Work and 2 years practical experience, or equivalent education and experience in a social service setting
- Knowledge of shelter services, non-profit sector, government funded services and/or relevant community resources
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Knowledge of violence against Indigenous women services and interventions, child abuse, and barriers facing abused women and their children in the re-establishment process
- Knowledge of feminist, anti-racism/anti-oppression framework
- Exceptional people management skills and the ability to effectively manage, coach and develop a diverse team of talented, professional staff
- Conflict management, problem-solving, and team building skills
- Organization, administrative, and budgeting skills
- Time management skills with the ability to organize team's work and set priorities to meet deadlines
- Ability to learn quickly and apply new processes and procedures
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of MS Office and other client information software such as Homeless Hub
- Possess or ability to acquire a current CPIC, First Aid/CPR certificate, and Joint Health and Safety Committee training
- A valid Driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle would be an asset
- Communicating in a First Nation’s language would be an asset
Working Conditions:
- Regular hours will be up to 40 hours per week
- Evenings and weekends may be required
- On-Call shared rotation
- High stress environment
- Travel may be required
- Due to the pandemic hours may be shifted and/or remote, as needed

Compensation:
- Annual salary $60,000 to $68,000 commensurate with experience
- Comprehensive benefits package
