Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)
Job Coaching/ Client Management Support
- Provides job coaching to participants on appropriate work habits, behaviours and attitudes during participation in the Empowering Abilities program and in the workplace
- Maintains regular consistent follow-up with participants during both the workshop and retention phases of the intervention to ensure positive outcomes
- Conducts regular monitoring visits and calls with clients
- Provides one–on-one sessions on job maintenance skills to ensure that participants can handle challenges on the job
- Delivers employability skills workshops, focusing on overcoming barriers to employment and job maintenance
- Assists participants to develop resumes, cover letters and interview skills
- Provides effective individual/group support to all participants to develop personal management skills (positive attitudes, self-awareness and workplace expectations, flexibility and adaptability on the job, budgeting etc.)
- Supports clients in selecting immediate job goal, helping to understand the conditions and specifications of job goal selected
- Helps clients discover educational and career paths for selected occupations, including training certification or apprenticeships
- Possess a strong ability to source information to clarify questions individuals with disabilities may have and /or anticipate information they will need to successfully start employment
- Manages individual and team administrative duties: scheduling appointments for participants, completing necessary paperwork, maintaining participant and employer files and Simple CTS/ DNA database
Job Development/ Job Retention
- Places approximately 20 participants per contract year with wage subsidy
- Generates 2-3 new relationships with employers each week in a variety of industries to ensure successful job development for clients
- Explores client’s vocational interests, aptitudes, and abilities, matching them to appropriate employment opportunities
- Administers placement agreements with wage subsidies, monitors wage subsidies throughout participant placements
- Helps with job retention by monitoring placements and successfully finds additional employment for clients that experience job loss
- Consistently follows up with employers and clients to mitigate potential issues
- Develops relationships with employers in a variety of industries to ensure successful job development for clients in their areas of interest, thus enhancing retention
- Assists employers with identifying their employment and training needs and conducts site visits to ensure employers can provide suitable and safe workplace environments
- Demonstrates a good understanding of the positions that are suitable for individuals with disabilities
- Travels on a regular basis to visit employers and community partners
Outreach/ Recruitment
- Assists in the recruitment of new clients through community outreach
- Presents the program to community partners and applicants in a clear manner ensuring they understand the program objectives and time requirements
- Strong familiarity with community partners, employers, and stakeholders
- Holds events such as hiring fairs to support employer needs as well as to attract new participants to the program
Qualifications/ Skills Required
- Must possess a Degree from a Human Services field combined with relevant experience
- Vocational Rehabilitation Worker Certification is considered a strong asset
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience is required
- Vocational counselling/ mental health counselling considered an asset
- A minimum of 2 years direct experience in recruitment, job development and / or job coaching
- Superior written communication skills and detail orientation are a must
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Workshop facilitation skills
- Understanding of and ability to effectively apply the principles of the sales process to generate leads for wage subsidy placements
- Vocational counselling / placement experience with individuals with a disability considered a strong asset
- Knowledge of local labour market, job search strategies and techniques and the impact of Covid-19 on the labour market
- Strong resume and cover letter writing skills
- Must be willing to travel on a regular basis for work
- Must be equipped to work remotely with ability to provide virtual workshops and individualized services to program participants
- Proficient in the use of online platforms such as Zoom and MS Teams
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and reliable vehicle is essential for local travel
- Flexible approach to work to ensure that all requirements of the project are met
- A second language is an asset
