Technical Systems Specialist – Full-time, Permanent

Location: Hybrid with 1-2 days/week at the Toronto or Vancouver office

Salary: $64,000 – $75,000 (dependent on experience)

MakeWay is looking for a new team member who will be responsible for supporting systems administration through design, deployment, and management of our IT infrastructure systems and processes. From maintaining servers to deploying software to overseeing device security protocols, your expertise will be integral to keeping our technology ecosystem running seamlessly.

What You’ll Do:

  • Captures and documents current internal IS team system administration processes in designated systems and contributes to designing new ones.
  • Designs and implements automations for managing administrative tasks using PowerShell scripting, or third-party applications to reduce administrative overhead.
  • Analyzes and resolves computer hardware, software, and network issues; repairs user workstations, modifies and rebuilds configurations, and replaces faulty components on a variety of platforms and systems.
  • Analyzes current state and proposes recommendations for IT service delivery process improvements to IT management team.
  • Analyzes, designs, and helps administer IT support systems including, but not limited to: remote connection console, security console, active directory, ticketing systems, email systems, teams management console, azure provisioning, security awareness platform, etc.
  • Performs daily systems monitoring to verify the integrity/availability of all resources including hardware/server/systems/key processes.
  • Provides solutions to a broad range of users for technical support; communicates effectively to convey complex technical information to non-technical individuals.
  • Coordinates contact with vendors as needed to assist with support activities.
  • Refurbishes and cleans equipment to be issued to users, manages physical inventory and shipping/receiving.

  • Independent self-starter: You take initiative, manage your workload, utilize all the resources at your disposal, and ask for help when needed.
  • Detail-oriented: You excel at tasks that require a high level of precision and you address errors and inconsistencies when you see them.
Experience You Bring:
  • 2-3 years as a Technical Support Analyst, or similar role.
  • Experience working on Tier 2 and 3 technical support of a SaaS product/platform.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office 365, Azure, PowerShell, Jira, Intune (Endpoint Manager), Jamf, MacOS, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Plesk or CPanel, Email systems and DNS.
  • Strong and applied knowledge of computer systems, software applications, and network management.
  • Strong and applied knowledge of remote desktop tools for providing remote support.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of operating systems (Windows and Mac) and common software applications.
It Would be a Bonus if You Have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience designing and implementing new IT infrastructure practice and policy.
  • Knowledge of best practice for Cyber Security and Information Security.
  • Applied experience in helping to design and test tabletop disaster recovery plans.
  • Proficiency in software development languages such as Java, Python, or SQL, with the ability to utilize them for scripting, automation, and basic development tasks.
  • 1-2 years' experience with non-profits or start-ups.
