About the Role

Environmental Defence Canada (EDC) is a leading Canadian environmental advocacy organization that works with government, industry and individuals todefend clean water, a safe climate and healthy communities. You will be joining a fast-paced organization with mission-driven and results-oriented team members. EDC is looking for a Development (Fundraising) Manager who can anticipate and meet the needs of a dynamic environment and develop innovative approaches to engage existing and potential funders. This is a full-time position with an excellent benefits package, 4 weeks vacation, employee and family assistance plan, half-day Fridays during the summer months, and an RRSP matching program. Salary range is $60-$68K depending on experience. This role will be reporting to the Director of Development.

Purpose of the Role

The Development Manager will foster a supportive and collaborative team structure where innovation and strategic thinking is encouraged. EDC’s work is grounded in identifying a theory of change and designing a path that will lead to securing stronger environmental protections. The Development Manager will oversee foundational grants for our Climate programs as well as oversee aspects of our Individual Giving.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with EDC’s Campaigns, Communications, Engagement and Finance teams to create and execute funding proposal

  • Project manage grant applications and reports

  • Steward existing funders and identify and cultivate new strategic funding opportunities

  • Manage multiple critical timelines and deliverables

Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years as fundraising professional, ideally in an area of advancing social change

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills including high-level command of grammar and spelling

  • Ability to think critically and make well-informed, timely decisions

  • Demonstrated project management skills

  • Ability to work independently and within a diverse team

  • Fluency in budget preparation and reporting and expense tracking

  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge software

  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in MS Office

  • Strong background in environmental issues is an asset

  • Knowledge of media reporting software like Sprout Social and Meltwater an asset

Location

  • This role will be a hybrid role, part time in the office and part time work from home.

  • Toronto or Ottawa preferred.
