Job Summary

The Weekend Respite Programs provide support to youth, aged 13-17 who have an intellectual disability while they participate in recreational activities within Mississauga on Friday evenings in the Friday Nights Out or all day on Saturdays in the Saturday Teen Activity Program. The Supervisor role is responsible for the overall operation of the Weekend Respite Programs, working under the guidance of the Manager, Respite & Leisure Services. This position is responsible for supervising the Weekend Respite Programs team, ensuring high quality support is being provided. Onsite presence will be required during off-hours, including both evenings and weekends.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strong leadership, coaching, mentoring and accountability in a team environment for employees working in the Weekend Respite Programs.
  • Meet and maintain the agency's organization’s expectations related to achieving outcomes for each person who receives support supported.
  • Manage budget expenditures of all assigned cost centres to ensure the effective use of all resources and fiscal accountability.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of respite program including program evaluation, program fees, scheduling activities and staffing.
  • Ensure all corporate policies and legislative compliance requirements are met including Health and Safety, Human Rights, funders, Municipal requirements, Ministry of Labour etc.
  • Schedule and manage all employee hours of work; including completing payroll for each location under supervision.
  • Identification of recruitment needs and assist with hiring of support staff.
  • Represent Community Living Mississauga professionally at all times while presenting, networking or engaging with colleagues outside of the agency.
  • Build community partnerships, recognize and act on opportunities to create partnerships and lasting relationships to benefit respite opportunities.
  • Knowledgeable of people’s verbal and nonverbal communications, including alternative communication systems and techniques, and encourages support workers to promote self-expression of people who receive support.
  • Remain current and informed regarding broader organizational information.
  • Participate in strategically identifying operational trends and respond accordingly.
  • Engage in collaborative problem solving approach with people receiving support, staff, families, colleagues and Manager to seek solutions on day-to-day issues.
  • Demonstrate, on an annual basis (minimum), an understanding of and application of the concepts related to CPI.

 

Qualifications

  • Developmental Services Worker Diploma (preferred), or Social Services Worker Diploma, Child and Youth Worker Diploma, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in the social services field or working or volunteering with people who have an intellectual disability.
  • Will consider a University Degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience in the social services field or working or volunteering with people who have an intellectual disability.
  • Must have supervisory experience.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply leadership, effective negotiation and delegation skills
  • Prior experience working with Personal Outcome Measures and Social Capital preferred.
  • Prior experience relating to respite supports preferred.
  • Must have a valid Ontario Driver’s License (Class G); access to a reliable vehicle and car insurance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, nonverbal, written)
  • Proficient in PC computer environment; MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and other software.
  • Bilingualism in English/French or other language would be considered an asset.
