About this position

The Congress of Aboriginal Peoples’ (CAP) advocacy and political representative efforts are to improve the socio-economic conditions of off-reserve Non-Status and Status Indians, Southern Inuit of Labrador and Métis Peoples living in urban, rural, remote, and isolated areas throughout Canada. CAP meets with federal ministers, informs federal policies, raises political awareness, and works to find practical ways to improve federal programs and services for this constituency of off-reserve Indigenous Peoples.

Reporting to the Director of Partnership Development, the incumbent works with members of the project team to operationalize plans for programs and activities focused on social innovation and social finance with a particular concentration on the Indigenous community. The Manager of Social Innovation completes administrative tasks, compiles information, provides support to experts and team members, manages budgets, and maintains relationships with external partners.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide operational planning and coordination, administrative support, project management, resource management and external outreach services

  • Develop timelines and work plans related to the development of programs and activities

  • Develop and aligns input from stakeholders, and organizes the implementation of strategic initiatives

  • Plan and organize meetings and work sessions for experts, Congress constituents, and senior administrative staff, includes scheduling, report and agenda preparation, record keeping, and communications

  • Track progress and manage follow-ups on deliverables included in agreements with funders

  • Manage agreements with sub-contractors to ensure timelines and deliverables of agreements are accomplished 

  • Liaise with external organizations to set meetings and follow-up on decisions

  • Develop budgets, create and manage accounts, and act as primary liaison with our finance office

  • Provides project management services (cost, resources, schedule and performance), information analysis, and synthesis for projects and initiatives

  • Follow-up and contribute to the development of reports and submissions as requested by Senior Management

  • Performs other duties as requested by the manager related to social innovation initiatives

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent number of years of experience in social innovation or a related field

  • Demonstrated experience coordinating complex projects on tight timelines

  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work with diverse individuals and groups and make a positive contribution to the team

  • Prior experience in managing a budget

  • Project management certificate or other similar credential desirable

  • Good knowledge (intermediate level) of Word (format documents, review/comment/redline documents, do mail merges) and of Excel (create spreadsheets and charts); PowerPoint (to create presentations), Adobe Acrobat; very good knowledge of Outlook (maintaining schedules, organizing meetings, tasks, group emails, contacts and other information, follow-ups) and scanning documents.

  • Sound judgment and discretion.

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision

Working Conditions

  • Reports to the Director of Partnership Development

  • Work will be performed from the CAP National Office

  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals

  • Occasional weekend and evening work and travel will be required

  • This is a full time contract position. Continued staffing of this position is subject to annual priorities and confirmation of funding from the federal government
