Program or Team: Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin – Community Addictions Support Team Program: Mobile Withdrawal Management Service

Location: Base Location Orillia - This is a mobile role and work throughout region and in-community is required.

Supervisor: Executive Director Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin

Term: 1.00 FTE Permanent

Salary: $59,612.00

About the Organization:

The Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle (BANAC) is a regional social planning and development organization which provides innovative programs and service to Indigenous communities in Simcoe County, Muskoka, and York Region, including wholistic Health Services through the Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin Primary Care Team. As an Interprofessional Health Care Team, Mamaway team members provide primary care, mental health, traditional healing and health promotion services for Indigenous communities. We provide wholistic services in clinic locations, community and in partnership with mainstream service partners.

About the Role:

As an important part of the interdisciplinary team, the Outreach Counsellor will perform assessments, treatment planning, and provide direct service in collaboration with other individuals who are significant in establishing and supporting an appropriate level of care. The Outreach Counsellor will support clients who wish to detox in their own homes, or a similar setting and evenings and weekend hours will be required to provide support. The Outreach Counsellor will use a wholistic approach to support clients and to support the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health of clients as they progress toward their substance use goals. This role collaborates closely with other providers to ensure strong assessment, treatment, and care planning is available for Indigenous clients.

This role is a part of the Mobile Withdrawal Management Service (MWMS). MWMS is a collaborative service that supports an individual to safely withdraw from substances in their home, the home of a family member or friend, or another community support location. The Outreach Counsellor will also help facilitate an addictions supportive program on a rotating schedule. This role requires some weekend and after hours work with advance notice.  

What You Bring:

  • Relevant post-secondary education to mental health, or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or lived experience with mental health and addictions

  • Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities and clients to provide wholistic culturally safe and trauma informed care

  • Knowledge of Indigenous history, culture and communities

  • Knowledge of community resources and experience navigating and connecting with mental health and add Experience in mental health and/or addictions (community-based setting preferred).

  • Must have access to a vehicle, a valid Ontario driver’s license, and adequate automobile insurance with a cleared driving record.

  • Knowledge of assessment, planning, and skill teaching strategies.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends with advance notice under a rotating schedule

  • Excellent systems navigation and facilitation skills

Information About Working at BANAC Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin:

  • Work is typically performed in clinic, office and community settings.

  • Regular travel to meetings and communities, will be required – vehicle an asset

  • Regular overtime work may be required from time to time, BANAC team members enjoy a flex schedule agreement

  • Periodic exposure to smoke may occur from the burning of sacred medicines:  Tobacco, sweet grass, sage or cedar.

Specific employment conditions are specified in an employment contract with BANAC and include the following:

  • Worksite location

  • Valid C.P.R. and A.E.D. Certificates required

  • Valid Class G Ontario Driver’s License is required with clear check for vulnerable sector
