Executive Director—Job Description
(Permanent Full-Time, 38 hrs/week)
Welcome Inn is a dynamic community centre that dares to imagine that there is a different and more vibrant path forward for ALL members of our community. Together with the community, Welcome Inn works to alleviate poverty, loneliness and marginalization—challenges that our community members face on a daily basis—by offering supportive relationships, promoting wellness and providing capacity-building opportunities. Our four program areas include: Children's Programs, Senior's Programs, Food Access Initiatives and Community Programs. All four program areas are designed to improve eight dimensions of wellness, namely emotional, physical, social, financial, intellectual, occupational, environmental and spiritual wellness.

Position Description:
In keeping with Welcome Inn’s vision and core values, our Executive Director provides organizational, administrative and financial leadership, working together with staff, volunteers and community members to alleviate the effects of poverty, loneliness and marginalization.
Accountability
- The Executive Director reports to Welcome Inn’s Board of Directors while maintaining appropriate and healthy relationships with the staff and community.
- The Executive Director maintains a high level of integrity and confidentiality, reflecting respect for all community members.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Organizational Leadership
- Communicate and implement Welcome Inn’s vision, core values and overall direction in partnership with the Board of Directors, staff and community.
- Ensure that organizational programs and policies are consistent with Welcome Inn’s vision, mission, values and goals.
- Lead the implementation of Welcome Inn’s strategic direction and plans.
- Evaluate the success and health of the organization as a whole and make necessary improvements as needed with guidance from the Board of Directors.
- Prepare reports for the Board of Directors and ensure follow through with directions from the board.
- Pursue internal and external opportunities for organizational growth.
- Maintain and develop Welcome Inn’s relationships with other agencies, partners and community advocacy groups.
- Human Resources
- Hire, train, supervise, direct, guide and evaluate Welcome Inn staff in their leadership of their respective programs, ensuring that they are using their gifts to their full potential.
- Terminate employees and/or positions as required with guidance from the Board of Directors.
- Consult with program coordinators to develop solutions for problem situations and for conflict resolution.
- Monitor care of self and employees.
- Lead staff meetings.
- Maintain compliance with Ministry of Labour regulations, including the Ontario Employment Standards Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Program Development
- Develop proposals and pursue funding for programs in conjunction with staff, volunteers and community members.
- Consult with program coordinators in program planning and evaluation.
- Assist with the planning and participating in special events when possible.
- Ensure new proposed programs align with Welcome Inn’s mission and core values.
- Financial Management
- Develop the annual budget in conjunction with the Treasurer and Board of Directors.
- Monitor the budget and oversee the administration of finances.
- Develop and manage a fundraising strategy for Welcome Inn including foundations, corporations, donors and campaigns throughout the year.
- Maintain contact and reporting with funders, including the United Way, Hamilton Community Foundation, and Ministry of Health, among others.
- Search out new and maintain existing sources of funding via the management and writing of grant applications.
- Establish relationships with key individual donors and corporate donors.
- Facility Management
- Approve the maintenance of the building and equipment, including insurance policies.
- Ensure the development and implementation of appropriate risk management policies and practices.
- Maintain compliance with federal, provincial and municipal acts and regulations.
- Community Involvement
- Promote Welcome Inn through various channels, such as attending city events, networking with other agencies, being available for media appearances and liaising with local politicians.
- Plan and direct marketing or advertising campaigns.
- Be familiar with social media platforms and information related to other similar agencies.
Qualifications:
- Applicable degree in a related field, preferably a post-graduate degree.
- Demonstrated leadership experience and capacity in the not-for-profit sector.
- Proficiency in grant writing and fundraising.
- Creativity and innovative thinking, and ability to put strategic planning into action.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multiple partners and organizations.
- Strong administrative skills, including multitasking and prioritization.
- Computer efficiency, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher), and knowledge of online applications (WordPress) and tools.
- Respectful, non-judgmental listener and learner.
- Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds, with experience and understanding of our North End community an asset.
