Canucks Autism Network (CAN) provides programs for individuals with autism and their families, while promoting acceptance and inclusion through community engagement and training initiatives across BC and beyond.

Position Outline  

Reporting to the Communications Manager and Marketing Manager, the Marketing and Communications Coordinator supports the development and implementation of branding and messaging strategies which will broaden CAN’s impact and overall reach. 

This position works collaboratively with all areas of the organization to provide communications and marketing support and ensure consistency in the organization’s messaging to diverse audiences, including internal staff and volunteers, participants and families, donors, supporters and more.   

Key Functions

Content Creation

  • Oversee scheduling and content creation of e-newsletters each month for members, donors, board, staff and volunteers
  • Work with Marketing and Communications team to develop story-telling content that represents all major aspects of the organization’s mission and vision
  • Working with Membership Team to oversee the publishing of the Seasonal Program Guide
  • Assist the Development Department with efforts for donor cultivation, direct mail pieces, and content for special events or grant proposals

Branding & Messaging

  • Maintain ongoing knowledge and mastery of all brand and messaging guidelines
  • Collaborate across Development, Programs, Employment and Operations departments to ensure that all events, initiatives, campaigns and associated collateral meet necessary brand and messaging standards for consistency, accuracy and quality
  • Organizing and disseminating CAN digital assets (photos, videos, etc.) to various departments as needed
  • Helping to oversee merchandise orders

Web & Online Platforms

  • Assist Marketing Manager with regular website updates and daily maintenance
  • Assist Communications Manager with developing and posting regular content for social media platforms
  • Helping to navigate, maintain and develop content for various online platforms, including the CAN Online Store, Peer-To-Peer Fundraising, Online Auctions and more
  • Track, measure, and produce reports on the success of digital communications tools via analytics

Requirements for Competency 

Education & Experience

  • Post-secondary education (degree or diploma) in Communications, Marketing or related field
  • 1-2 years of work experience in a communications role or agency environment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proven experience as a self-starter and an ability to work independently
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills and strong attention to detail
  • An eye for multimedia design and aesthetics
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into language easily comprehensible to diverse audiences
  • Ability to prioritize among competing goals to execute on tight deadlines
  • Articulate, polished, and professional demeanor with strong work ethic, initiative, and confidence
  • Savvy with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as online email and website platforms
  • Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams
  • Fun, supportive, and adaptable with a positive CAN-do attitude
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at a time

Additional Skills that will be beneficial (but not essential) for the role

  • Specific experience with design software (ie. Photoshop/InDesign
  • Familiarity/experience with social media platforms
  • Basic website knowledge (HTML, WordPress)
  • Experienced writer
  • Experience in photography/videography
  • Autism knowledge
  • Public speaking and speech-writing skills

This is a full-time position beginning as soon as possible. Office hours are relatively flexible, and generally 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday; however, this position may require some evening and weekend work from time to time. All office staff are temporarily working from home due to Covid-19. 

Salary is based upon qualifications and level of experience. A competitive employee benefits package is offered.
