It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit, and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. With over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services, TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.

Reporting to the Director, Healing and Wellness, the Manager, Regional Cancer Program works in partnership with Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) to facilitate the timely and accurate execution of TI’s project work plan for the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (CPAC) initiative.

TI is searching for a skilled and experienced candidate to provide leadership and direction to staff working in the Regional Cancer Program and to be accountable for the overall effective management of this initiative. The incumbent will manage broader strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, liaise with Regional Programs and work to facilitate system improvements in patient experience for Inuit.

Key responsibilities of the position include:

• Liaise with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis (FNIM) partners to understand their needs and support a collaborative approach to design, development and implementation of Ontario’s Indigenous Cancer Strategies.
• Provide input, supervision and collaboration on on-going and upcoming research projects related to cancer health and patient experience.
• Represent TI at internal / external committees, events and initiatives as required.
• Lead, support and supervise program staff; establish objectives, training and work plans that incorporate Inuit culture, language, and traditions.
• Monitor program budgets and ensure deliverables are met, in collaboration with staff.
• Liaise between Ontario Health’s Indigenous Cancer Control Unit, Ontario’s Regional Cancer Programs, and other external partners on a local, provincial, and national level.
• Support the facilitation of meetings and engagements with the Kaggutiq Advisory Group.
• Participate in work plan reviews and facilitates resource capacity and sustainability planning.
• Provide content expertise and assistance to regional partners and provide support to Indigenous Navigators and Regional Indigenous Cancer leads.
• Administrative tasks including staff scheduling and leave approval, ensuring quality of services (soliciting client feedback and addressing client concerns), participant and service data gathering, record keeping and file maintenance.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of Ontario’s Inuit history, culture and health/socio-economic issues and needs, knowledge of Ontario’s health system and social determinants of health for FNIM and knowledge of Inuit culture, values, traditional practices, and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, financial management skills, project management skills, information and records management skills and supervisory/leadership skills are necessary.

The ability to connect with the urban Inuit community through outreach and community engagement, facilitate both small and large groups of diverse project stakeholders both remotely and in person, work independently with a strong sense of focus, work occasional evenings and weekends, and travel out of town as needed are all requirements of the position.

Undergraduate degree in health sciences, social/ behavioural sciences or similar field of study is required; must have three years’ experience working with the Inuit community, developing/ enhancing community programs, addressing chronic disease issues, and creating health-related community resources and products. Experience supervising a team in a related capacity is preferred. Fluency in English is required and the ability to communicate in Inuktitut is an asset.

A combination of related education and experience may be accepted.
