About this position
Interim Chief Executive Officer
Variety – the Children’s Charity of BC
Location: Burnaby, BC. Hybrid.
Term: November 1, 2025 – December 31, 2026
Variety - the Children’s Charity of BC (“Variety”) has been helping children with complex healthcare needs for nearly 60 years. Stepping in where healthcare ends, Variety provides vital support for children with disabilities and complex health needs across BC. Through essential supports and resources—including medical and mobility equipment, specialized therapies, mental health counselling, vital assessments, and early intervention—Variety empowers extraordinary children to overcome barriers and thrive across British Columbia.
Last year, more than 15,000 children and youth in 245 communities received support that changed daily realities and life trajectories for the better. Rooted in equity, diversity and inclusion, Variety believes every child deserves an inclusive world and partners with families to ensure children have the opportunity to belong and thrive in their communities.
Variety has thrived under the leadership of its current CEO, who has been in the role for three years. Due to her upcoming maternity leave, a highly capable Interim CEO is being sought, for the period of this maternity leave - about 14 months (approx. November 1, 2025 -December 31, 2026).
The Interim CEO will support and build on the important work that the current CEO and team have developed over the past three years, and will be responsible for maintaining momentum, continuing to lift key strategic priorities through hands-on execution. Some of these priorities include planning for future building development, evolving the Show of Hearts broadcast, marking Variety’s 60th anniversary, brand strategy, and leading the development of a long-term digital transformation plan. All to say, this is more than a maintenance role, this is an opportunity to have a meaningful impact for kids and families at a pivotal point in a growing organization.
As the ideal candidate, you are a strategic and highly relational leader, a values-based executive who brings senior leadership experience in a mission-driven setting. You bring a record of leading through transition with integrity, clarity and collaboration. You are someone who can ramp up very quickly and excel at navigating, rallying and motivating people internal and external to the organization. A “doer” who knows how to both lead, and actively add value, you are a strategic operator who can personally execute.
This is a unique opportunity to steward one of BC’s most recognized children’s charities at an important moment—shaping impact for families across the province while playing an active role in terms of propelling Variety as it continues to grow.
Based in Burnaby with a flexible, hybrid workplace, the role offers competitive executive compensation and benefits and the opportunity to ensure that every child’s unique potential knows no bounds.
