About this position
Boarding Advisor
Contract
Commencing end of August 2023
The Bishop Strachan School (‘BSS’) has been a leader in girls’ education since 1867. We help talented girls become fearless women who are able to navigate the world with intellectual curiosity, agility, and compassion. We teach them to find purpose, feel confident, and speak with a strong, independent voice.
Boarding at BSS is a unique opportunity for girls to grow and learn in a new environment. We welcome students from Grades 8 to 12 into the Boarding program. They live right on campus, with easy access to all school facilities. We know it can be a big step to leave home and live in a new city (and in many cases, country.) That’s why we do everything we can to support the transition and create a warm, encouraging atmosphere. For a young person away from home, Boarding is an opportunity to become more self-reliant and self-aware. It’s a chance to develop confidence and learn to lead. The Boarding experience supports academic success while helping each Boarder grow as a person. Find out more about our Boarding Program by going here.
The Boarding Advisor is a live-in position responsible for the care and supervision of all boarders. Reporting to the Dean of Boarding, this position will assist the Boarding Co-ordinators in providing a safe, healthy, and supportive environment for Boarding students in Grades 8-12. Our Boarding staff are experts in understanding current needs of adolescents to help them grow as individuals and are deeply committed to creating a warm, encouraging atmosphere. In addition, they are passionate about supporting boarders in building the confidence and resilience to know themselves well, and to navigate the transition to successfully learning and living in a new environment. In conjunction with other Boarding staff, the position is responsible for leading a small family group of boarders, communicating regularly with parents/guardians and ensuring that the aims and objectives of the Boarding curriculum are met.
Living in Boarding at BSS:
- Extensive health and dental benefits package
- Administration contributes to our robust Pension Plan which is up to 8% match.
- Use of on-site fitness center and pool
- The apartment and meals are provided as part of the compensation package.
- Live in boarding full-time from the end of August until the end of School year (end of June). You are welcome to stay on campus for the summer months as well but boarding will not be in session at that time.
- Includes a furnished apartment (suitable for one person only) within the Boarding School. Guests (including overnight guests) are not permitted when Boarding is in session due to the location of the apartment. Pets are also not permitted.
The schedule, prepared by the Dean of Boarding, is composed of various day/evening/overnight and weekend shifts. The Boarding Program Co-ordinator must remain available for days and weekends as scheduled and for emergency on-call support as noted on the schedule.
