Grant Manager

We are looking for a methodical and strategic individual to strengthen our diverse fundraising base, which includes major government grants. As a key contributor to our development, the Grant Manager will manage the development, implementation, and evaluation of our grants, as well as foster good relations with our funders. Together with our team, the successful candidate will flesh-out proposals, matching needs to funding opportunities, and oversee the full cycle of each grant, from application to reporting.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Director of Communications and Stakeholder Engagement (DCSE), the Grant Manager is responsible for the entire grant procurement process; carefully reviewing and selecting opportunities, keeping a close eye on application deadlines, and meeting all reporting deadlines. Together with our team, the Grant Manager will ensure the necessary reporting to funders and nurture close ties with funder agencies (Federal/Provincial/Municipal) and non-governmental partners (Foundation/Corporate). The Grant Manager is diligent, good with details, resourceful, analytical, autonomous, understands the value of effective teamwork, and has a passion for writing grants.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the DCSE in the overall execution of fundraising and grant management.

  • Working with the program teams to identify areas of funding needs.

  • Researching and identifying funding opportunities at all levels of government and with foundations and partners that have compatible priorities or mandates.

  • Writing compelling grant applications and liaising with funding partners to ensure compliance with grant requirements.

  • Ensuring that adequate organizational resources are secured to carry out programs and projects.

  • Creating and managing project and program timelines and service deliverables in tandem with program staff.

  • Tracking grant applications and following up with funding and partner questions.

  • Managing active grant programs and collection of data from the team as required, including financial projections, expenditures, impact, and other reporting.

  • Collaborating across the organization, keeping the team on track to meet deadlines.

  • Completing grant reporting requirements that respect applicable contract deadlines.

  • Creation and submission of impact and recognition reports to funders.

  • Optimizing and streamlining the grant administration process by leveraging the grant database.

  • Utilizing the in-house CRM to write queries and reports that identify trends for proposals and reports.

  • Reporting to the DCSE regarding the status of grant applications and timelines.

  • Supporting the Directors in maintaining strong relations with federal, provincial and municipal officials in order to assess on-going developments and opportunities and to maintain a high profile for YES.

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications  

  • Appropriate degree in a related field (communications, development, public policy, business development, non-profit management) or a minimum of 5 years related experience with a proven record of successful grant writing in the non-profit sector

  • Bilingual with excellent English communication skills

  • Excellent analytical skills

  • Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to multi-task, with excellent attention to detail.

  • Motivated with strong follow through and self-direction on assignments.

  • Organized with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and meet strict deadlines.

  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt as required.

  • Knowledge of budgeting is a bonus.

  • Experience using Office365 and SharePoint platforms is a bonus.

  • Commitment to not-for-profit causes.
