Manager, Neighbourhoods
United Way Greater Toronto is looking for an experienced Manager Neighbourhoods, to join our team at our Toronto office.
Reporting to the Director, Neighbourhood Solutions, the Manager, Neighbourhoods is responsible to manage and coordinate UWGT’s neighbourhood strategy with partners in communities across Toronto, York & Peel Regions and to identify opportunities for UWGT investment and support.
What you’ll do:
- Provides advice and guidance to partners on community development, resident engagement and participation, partnership development, strategic planning, and governance to support the effective implementation of UWGT’s neighbourhood strategy
- Oversee design of granting processes (applications and funding packages) and other associated tools (i.e. reporting templates) in line with expected fund objectives and theory of change
- Establishes partnership contracts and memoranda of understanding, oversees achievement of key project deliverables including ensuring accurate reporting, and financial accountability
- Work with cross-functional teams to ensure UWGT’s priorities and goals are achieved including but not limited to Corporate Donor Relations and Product Development (donor engagement), Research, Public Policy & Evaluation (evaluation and neighbourhood profiles), Communications & Public Affairs (media and stories), and Strategic Initiatives (stakeholder engagement).Provides coaching, mentoring and capacity building support to agencies and community partners in partnership with UWGT capacity building team
- In partnership with local stakeholders, identify and assess community priorities in selected neighbourhoods in relation to neighbourhood goals
- Participates in appropriate external committees and liaises with key stakeholders, other funders, academic institutions, and governments, within and beyond individual neighbourhoods for the purposes of information exchange, coordination of joint initiatives, policy development, and capacity building support and to promote UWGT’s various initiatives and investments for strengthening neighbourhoods
- Plans and manages implementation of projects of varying size and complexity
- Identifies social and community issues to be addressed in neighbourhood based policy development in coordination with the Communication and Public Policy team
- Develops cross-neighbourhood plans, tools and templates for learning and reflection on UWGT’s place-based interventions and support development of compelling narratives of UWGT’s work through a neighbourhood lens
- Presents to various stakeholders on the neighbourhood strategy and UWGT
- More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years’ experience in community development, community organizing and/or resident engagement work, project development and management
- Post-secondary education in community development, urban studies, social services or a related field or equivalent work-related experience
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders such as social service providers, community coalitions and networks, funders and government with demonstrated ability to effectively manage, foster and grow these relationships Sound knowledge of the human services sector in Toronto, of the challenges facing Toronto’s underserved communities, and place-based strategies to address local priorities
- Proven organizational skills, including ability to take initiative, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines under pressure, and carry projects to completion with minimum supervision
- Knowledge of granting and funding processes
- Highly developed analytical skills with ability to assess new opportunities and use independent judgment to problem solve
- Ability to influence, negotiate and manage contentious issues to resolution with multiple stakeholders
- Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work respectfully and inclusively with diverse populations and multiple stakeholders
- Strong communication and presentation skills (both written and verbal)
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and week-ends
