About this position

We currently have eight L’Arche homes and 5 day programs in Richmond Hill Ontario where people with and without disabilities share life. The Program Coordinator is responsible for programing at the Woodery, Craft Studio, Club, Spirit Movers and the Day Program. In addition, the Program Coordinator oversees two homes.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures HLs and PLs create a welcoming, clean, comfortable, safe, trusting, and unified environment.

  • Ensures HLs and PLs adhere to all policies, guidelines and regulations.

  • Nurtures the gifts and growth of HLs, PLs and members with developmental disabilities in the homes/programs.

  • Leads processes, such as annual reviews, circles of learning, roles and goals meetings, and individual planning.

  • Encourages, teaches and supports HLs and PLs to lead regular celebrations in the home/program as well as supports HLs and PLs to understand and maintain the traditions of the community, while teaching life sharing.

  • Supports HLs and PLs to maintain a comfortable rhythm, ensuring needs of all members are met. This includes encouraging local participation in activities.

  • Provides stability in the homes/programs during times of change and transition.

  • Ensures assistants, volunteers and visitors have a meaningful engagement with the community and home/program.

  • Is able to support HLs to integrate a meaningful spiritual life into the home. This includes times for traditions, prayer and reflections. Ensures diverse spiritual approaches are respected.

  • Is an effective team member, and collaborates with other Homes Coordinators in Canada to share best practices

  • Supports L’Arche throughout the federation. Is knowledgeable on initiatives at the regional, national and international levels and shares this knowledge with the homes/programs.

  • Seeks out opportunities for personal growth. Models life sharing and the values of L’Arche for others.

  • Coordinates with HLs/PLs to set schedules, training times, and support resources as necessary.

  • Effectively communicate and work with families, guardians and professionals

  • Manages situations and crises as they arise in community. Carry the Emergency Phone (24/7) and be available to respond one in every four weeks.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree or certificate

  • Fluent in spoken and written English

  • Clear police check including vulnerable sector screening

  • Proven success in leading teams

  • Ability to admit mistakes and learn; asks for and accepts help when needed

  • Ability to be flexible and manage the stress of multi-faceted responsibilities and supervision

  • Remains calm, and focused in times of uncertainty and crisis, and can give clear directions.

  • Works collaboratively, models and promotes conflict resolution

  • Is organized and able to set priorities and follow-through on commitments in a timely fashion

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Good administrative skills, organized and demonstrates time management skills

  • Ability to problem solve, assist in reaching solutions and obtaining necessary resources

  • Valid G class driver’s license, and excellent driving record.

  • Experience using HRIS system an asset

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday, occasional weekends

  • On call,  one in 4 weeks

All new employees must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. As we are a congregate living setting masks are worn at all times indoors and rapid antigen testing must be completed 3 times a week Screening and sanitizing are part of our daily protocols.
