About this position

About Sanctuary

At Sanctuary, we are becoming a healthy, welcoming community where people who are poor or excluded are particularly valued. This community is an expression of the good news embodied in Jesus Christ.

Our faith and relationship with God inform us in identifying the following as some of our core values:

  • Dignity: We believe that each person is created in the image of God and, as such, has the right to be treated with the utmost dignity.
  • Mutuality: We come to our relationships recognizing that each person has gifts to be shared and gifts to be received.
  • Inclusivity: We intend that our community at Sanctuary will be as inclusive as Jesus was in his life.

The words we often use to describe ourselves are “community” and “family.” Our staff and those we serve “do life” together. It can be challenging, complicated and messy. We find that it’s also enlivening, fulfilling, and deeply meaningful.

Retail Sales & Operations

This role is about working in our Social Enterprise bike shop, Switchback Cyclery, and providing consistent customer service leadership while also managing the core inventory items for our shop.

You’ll greet customers, help them find the bikes and accessories that they need, cash them out and follow up as needed to make sure that their experience is fabulous. You will need to know enough about cycling and related products to provide a high level of service and also to model excellence for others working in a similar role.

As part of providing an excellent customer experience in our store, you will also be responsible to ensure that orders are placed and received as needed so that we consistently have the right products in stock at the right time.

Finally you will provide assistance in managing our social media presence and marketing efforts.

You’ll succeed in this role if you have these characteristics:

You’re comfortable with tension and ambiguity. The Sanctuary community, and the bike shop specifically, includes a wide range of people. We don’t always agree, but we always care for one another.

You love customer service. Customers put a smile on your face and you delight in exceeding their expectations every time they walk through the door.

You’re at ease using a computerized Point of Sale system. Whether serving customers, receiving orders or analyzing inventory needs, you catch on fast and know how to use technology to do the job even better.

You understand the world of retail. You are prepared to work evenings and weekends. You know how to be flexible and to adapt on the fly. And you are ready to do whatever it takes to make it work.

Your Christian faith informs, motivates and inspires all facets of your life.

By joining us, you’ll become an important part of our close-knit community. We hope that if you feel at home here, you’ll be in it with us for the long haul.
