Community Partnerships Coordinator

The Mississauga Food Bank’s (TMFB) vision is a Mississauga where no one goes hungry. We work towards this vision through relieving hunger by providing and promoting access to healthy and appropriate food.

Job Purpose

  • Achieve revenue and food-raising targets from community fundraising events and food drives. Lead and engage in long-term partnerships with key community stakeholders including but not limited to education and faith institutions, cultural groups, civic groups, service clubs, clubs, sports teams, local grocery stores, etc. 
  • Identify community event organizers that have the potential to increase their philanthropic giving and deepen their partnership with TMFB. Develop a pipeline of community events by raising TMFB’s profile in the community as a “charity of choice” for third party events 

Responsibilities

Food Drives and Fundraising Events (60%) 

  • As a part of the Community Partnerships annual plan, manage a robust pipeline of community event organizers, focussed on growth and retention
  • Build and execute a communications plan including face-to-face meetings, mass, and personal emails, and phone follow-ups with the purpose to cultivate and solicit previous and prospective community event organizers
  • Convert ‘food only’ donors to raise funds. Where only food is possible, increase healthy/most needed food items raised by communicating TMFB’s needs to organizers
  • Coordinate fundraiser and food drive registration, logistics, and stewardship. Provide support to ensure a positive donor experience, event success, and repeating/growing event in future years
  • Provide support in the creation of a P2P campaign (incl. best practices, sharing toolkit and other resources)
  • Answer questions from organizers, ensuring they follow the correct process to register their food drive/fundraiser
  • Once registered, provide supplies to organizers, record details in our database, liaise with the warehouse team to book trucking, ensure the donation is received, and the thank you is issued
  • Work in partnership with schools to build an engaging youth-led campaign
  • Work with the Marketing team to develop tools and collateral as needed
  • Build reports that accurately reflect activity and progress towards achieving goals

Donor Cultivation and Engagement (30%)

  • Identify food drive and fundraising event organizers who display interest in developing a deeper relationship with TMFB and have the potential for further philanthropic or sponsorship support. Connect them to the Director of Development for further cultivation and solicitation
  • Develop strategic partnerships among Mississauga’s faith community
  • Speak and present on behalf of TMFB at community events and cheque presentations, inviting the Director of Development or CEO to attend when appropriate 

Other (10%)

  • Participate and provide assistance in activities, initiatives, and special projects as requested

Education and Experience

  • 2+ years of professional fundraising and volunteer management experience, supporting third-party events an asset
  • College diploma, university degree, or equivalent practical experience in a relevant field
  • Demonstrated successful relationship-building experience

  • Technical. Computer proficiency with strong skills in MS Office and/or Google Apps for business. TMFB is a cloud-based, paperless environment. Demonstrated experience with customer relationship management systems (preferably Raiser’s Edge)
  • Communication. Speak, listen, and write in a clear, confident, respectful, thorough, and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques.
  • Flexibility/Adaptability. Flexible, versatile, and/or tolerant in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency. Adjust quickly to changing priorities and conditions. Cope effectively with complexity and change.

  • Hold a valid driver's license and have regular access to a vehicle

Scope: Community fundraising groups raise over $500K annually

Relationships: Reports to the Director of Development and is a member of the Development team. Internally, this position works closely with the Warehouse team to support event logistics. Externally, this position works closely with event organizers.

Position Type: Permanent, full-time position. Some evening and weekend work is required, especially during the Thanksgiving/Holiday season. On-call by phone/email/text for event issues that may arise during off-hours. 

Compensation: Starting salary of $50,000-$62,000.00
