PLASP Child Care Services is a charitable organization operating on a not-for-profit basis, providing high quality early learning and child care, for children up to 12 years of age. PLASP operates programs in more than 240 schools providing before and after school care. PLASP also operates over 30 full-day early learning and child care centres and six EarlyON locations for children from 0 – 6 years.

Well PLASP Childcare Services is looking for a Manager, Volunteer Services to lead, grow and expand our volunteer and student on placement programs and initiatives.

Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources, the Manager, Volunteer Services plans, develops and oversees the delivery of the Volunteer Services and Student program which include the recruitment, orientation, training, deployment, and recognition of volunteers and students.

 

THE POSITION INVOLVES…

The successful candidate will provide a full range of duties, including:

  • Promotes a culture of volunteerism and assesses the need for volunteers and students on placement in programs and at head office.
  • Source and recruit volunteers and students with diverse backgrounds and experience through various techniques (databases, e-mail, social media etc.)
  • Ensure that principals of diversity, inclusion and innovation are incorporated into the volunteer and student on placement program.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, support, resources, and tools to a team of direct reports
  • Cultivate a positive and supportive atmosphere by recognizing volunteer and student on placement efforts and supporting their experiences within organizational operations
  • Ensures adequate training and orientation is provided to volunteers and student on placement.
  • Be available as a resource to both paid staff and volunteers.
  • Plans and implements volunteer recognition events
  • Maintains accurate and up‑to‑date records of volunteer and statistics.
  • Develop and carry out ongoing volunteer relations and program evaluation to ensure volunteer feedback and satisfaction with program.
  • Liaises with other PLASP program personnel in order to determine ways in which the organization's services can be strengthened and extended through volunteer involvement.
  • Acts as a Project Leader on Department’s Projects (e.g., Volunteer Recognition Event, evaluation components)
  • Represents PLASP at community events as requested

 

THE PREFERRED CANDIDATE WILL HAVE…

  • An educational background in Volunteer Management, Social Services, Education or Human Resources Management preferred
  • Volunteer Management Certification would be an asset
  • Good knowledge of operating in a non-profit or volunteer-related organization desirably as a manager with exceptional leadership, computer, and communication skills to meet the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership development, supervision, planning, delivery, reporting and evaluation
  • Effective presenter to large and small groups of people
  • 3+ years’ experience in the management, engagement, support and activation of volunteers and events
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • A demonstrated interest in voluntarism
  • Familiarity with community service agencies
  • An ability to communicate effectively at all levels and build stakeholder relationships
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and take initiatives when the need arises
