About this position

The Wildseed Centre for Art & Activism is seeking a Part-Time Fellowship Coordinator. Wildseed is a community space providing organizational, arts, and events space for the Black community of Toronto. Wildseed is a transfeminist, queer affirming space politically aligned with supporting Black liberation work across Canada. Wildseed is a community incubator, rentable space, art gallery, dance studio, and a central hub of activity for Black Lives Matter–Canada.

The Fellowship Coordinator will report to and be supervised by the Managing Director.

This work requires:

  • Excellent organizational, office management and communication skills.
  • Working independently with some direction and guidance.
  • Project management skills are required.
  • Administrative & tracking skills; the ability to keep accurate and detailed records.
  • Comfortability working in a fast-paced, highly collaborative work environment.
  • Understanding of and familiarity with Toronto’s Black activist and critical arts landscape and Black Lives Matter–Canada’s mandate and work.
  • Experience with grant writing is considered an asset.
  • Multilingualism is an asset.

Job Type: Part-Time, 1-Year Contract covering parental leave with possibility of extension. 10-20 hours per week for the initial phase, with possibility of expansion at a mutually-agreed upon time.

Contract Start: July 16, 2021. 90 day probationary period.

Pay: $30-$35 CAD dependent on experience. Paid biweekly.

Location: Dependent on the work: virtual, remote, or at Wildseed Centre - which is fully compliant with all Municipal, Provincial, and Federal COVID-19 guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working with curators to ensure the safe and smooth running of a 20 month fellowship with 7 distinct residency periods and 6 workshops.
  • Liaising with Wildseed Fellows and Artists and maintaining communication between Curators and fellows/artists.
  • Coordinating the timeline and scheduling for all Wildseed fellowship activities, including arranging appropriate ASL interpretation and other services as needed
  • Working with staff and the board to plan and schedule Fellows use of Wildseed Centre for Art and Activism.
  • Tracking budget and workplan documents for the fellowship and supporting curators in preparing any related final reports for grants received.
  • Establish and maintain work priorities and ensure deadlines are met and procedures are followed.
  • Build & Maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, and external partners.
  • In collaboration with the Managing Director, oversee and project manage Wildseed Centre’s website development.
  • Advise on communication strategies for Wildseed programming across our website, social media, and through external communications.
  • When possible, identify systems, software, and solutions to support the development and growth of the organization.
  • Recommend timelines, proposals, and resources needed to achieve strategic goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
