Yorktown Family Services provides a comprehensive range of mental health services for children, youth, young adults and families who are experiencing serious emotional/social/behavioural difficulties along with several a gender-based violence initiatives. Yorktown Family Services is looking for highly skilled individual to supervise our outreach and community engagement programs.

Primary Function

To supervise the West Toronto Youth Outreach Worker Network

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision to Youth Outreach Worker (YOW) West Toronto network including partnering agencies
  • Direct supervision of the Enhanced Youth Outreach Worker (EYOW) therapist and Black Enhanced Youth Outreach Worker (BEYOW) therapist
  • Oversea and manage all YOW referrals coming from partner agencies such as Child welfare agencies, Probation/Youth Justice, Toronto Police Service, Toronto District School Board. Toronto Community Housing, City of Toronto, Hospitals, and Ontario Heath Teams
  • Participate all local and provincial YOW conferences
  • Participate in bi-weekly supervision meetings with the Manager of Outreach and Community Engagement
  • Work closely with the Manager of Outreach and Community Engagement to implement YOW program strategies that reflect the strategic priorities and Values of Yorktown
  • Sustain a quality improvement strategy including regular file audits of health records
  • Work closely with the Manager of the Youth Wellness Hub Ontario – West Toronto Supervisor to support YOW related referrals
  • Collaborate with therapy teams to support both our EYOW and BEYOW initiatives through an integrated care framework
  • Work closely and interlink programming with the Manager of ETA and the West Toronto Youth Hub Manager
  • Keep up to date on emerging trends and latest developments related to trauma strategies related to community violence, systemic racism, poverty, newcomer populations, and gang-involved youth/young adults
  • Attend the Focus Toronto table meetings as needed
  • Liaise with supervisory staff at host partner agencies
  • Support the completion of annual performance appraisals.
  • Sit on community tables and work groups related to the YOW program
  • Lead with frontline staff, managers, and director to create new growth opportunities for the West Toronto YOW program including expanding and sustaining lgbtq2s+ programming, and implementing interventions for the Ukrainian, Russian, and Afghan communities in west Toronto.
  • Lead at a supervisory level co-ordination of joint integrated interventions and programming with the other team
  • Lead with frontline community building and engagement projects i.e. community events, arts & culture events, sports and recreation community events that engage youth
  • Support the sustainability and growth of culturally competent practices with a focus on Afro Canadian Caribbean, Muslim, young women and men involved with the justice system, and populations from Eastern Europe and Afghanistan
  • Facilitate case conference meetings and team meetings
  • Support the organizations wider strategic plan and mission related activities

Qualifications

  • Minimum MSW, MACP, or equivalent
  • Registered to a professional college; either College of Social Worker or College of Psychologists of Ontario
  • Minimum of 3 years of direct supervisory experience in the area of youth/adult justice and social and community health care, gang intervention, reintegration programs, housing and settlement, and experience managing teams hosted over large geographic areas
  • A good understanding of trauma in relation to community violence, systemic racism, domestic violence and gang-entry
  • A strong understanding of trauma, PTSD, and the impacts of prolonged violence exposure on people
  • A strong understanding of how racism, systems of oppression, social exclusion can lead to social isolation that may contribute to mental health problems
  • A strong understanding of how the Priority Neighborhood Improvement (PNI) system works
  • Enthusiasm and skill working to support change with a multi-challenged, diverse client population
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including report and and exceptional presentation skills
  • Superb interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Experience supervising in an Inter-disciplinary team setting
  • Be able to set boundaries with workload and have a strong self-care network
  • Has demonstrated the ability to manage sensitive information and develop communication strategies to message according to alignment with risk level or opportunity
  • Is able to identify risk to people and the organization; and provide the appropriate risk mitigation strategies 
  • Can work closely with law enforcement organizations through a non-judgemental and bias approach
  • Has a passion for anti-oppressive/anti-racism approach along with working from a strength based/empowerment approach
  • Has demonstrated the ability to have transparent communication with colleagues 
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekend may be essential
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening is required
  • Access to a reliable vehicle is a definite asset
