About this position
Job Summary:
Working closely with the Director of Operations and other members of the leadership team, the Controller will be responsible for managing the AFMC’s day-to-day accounting and finance operations, including accurate and timely reporting as well as monitoring and enforcement of policies, procedures and internal controls.
Responsibilities:

Supervise finance staff;
-
Manage finance operations including AP, AR, banking, payroll, investments and cash management;
-
Manage the creation of project reports and ad hoc financial analysis;
-
Manage month-end and year-end closing;
-
Prepare quarterly finance binder and annual external audit;
-
Monitor and enforce compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures and other internal controls utilizing knowledge of Accounting Standards and best practices;

Support the preparation and implementation of annual budget, quarterly forecasts and long-range financial planning;

Stay apprised of relevant regulations, standards, and directives from regulatory agencies and fund contribution guidelines’ third-party payers;

Ensure financial inquiries are resolved and communicated in a timely and appropriate way; and

Desired Qualifications and Experience:
-
Minimum three (3) years of recent accounting experience in a managerial position, including as a Controller;
-
Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation (Essential);
-
Experience working with NPOs, registered charitable organizations in Canada (Asset);
-
Strong technical knowledge of Canadian accounting standards and best practices;
-
Proficient in Sage 50 Accounting and MS Office;

Experience in the supervision of staff;
-
Ability to manage time and meet deadlines with minimal supervision;
-
Strong problem solving and analytical skills; and,
-
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.
Language Skills:
-
Bilingual (English and French) oral, written and reading comprehension skills (Asset);
-
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

Sit, stand and occasionally required to walk or move around a physical or remote office environment;
