Organization Overview:

Stepping Stone is a community-based agency that believes in the Housing First philosophies and practices. We strive to improve the quality of life for people who are at risk of or who are currently homeless. Many of these individuals are also experiencing significant mental health issues and drug misuse, abuse and addiction. We offer support along the continuum of homelessness all the way to supportive and affordable housing through individualized housing focused, participant-driven care plans. The Stepping Stone team collaborates with community services within Guelph-Wellington to help support these plans and to offer our participants wrap-around supports as needed.

Job Summary:

The Service Manager supervises, coaches and supports the frontline staff in all of our programs in their work towards ending homelessness in Guelph-Wellington. The Service Manager works collaboratively with Community Partners to develop and implement services that work together to provide evidence based person-focused support.  The main goal in this position is to supervise and support frontline staff, ensure clinical consistency and best practices among our programs and sites and to collaborate with health partners to offer shared care to individuals experiencing homelessness in Guelph-Wellington.  The clinical manager works across multiple sites in Guelph-Wellington.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Social Work or Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field 

  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical or management experience in a community based setting

  • An understanding of the complex factors that lead to an experience of homelessness and the ability to implement care plans that support people in maintaining their stay in shelter or their housing

  • Strategic planning skills, demonstrated customer service skills, solution focused coaching skills and strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Computer proficient with strong time management skills

  • Use or ownership of an automobile with public liability and property damage

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:

In collaboration with the leadership team, the Service Manager provides input and assistance in program management and staffing supervision from a clinical lens.  

Primary duties include but are not limited to:

  • Recruit and supervise assigned staff

  • Provide staff supervision in a manner that supports the challenges they are facing and creates opportunities for engagement and skill development

  • Support in the team development within all of the Stepping Stone programs

  • Design, develop and implement program protocols and procedures related to health care or clinical work

  • Support the admission, intake and discharge decisions and processes at all programs in collaboration with the Program Manager and staff team

  • Support frontline staff in developing and delivering care plans and creative solutions for individuals within their caseloads

  • Collaborate with community partners to deliver integrated programming through meetings, shared supervision as needed

  • Participate in internal and external meetings, projects and committees

  • Foster positive working relationships in line with Stepping Stone values with all staff, peers, clients, families, volunteers and community

Working Environment / Schedule:

  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts including evenings and weekends when required

  • 35 hour regular work week (70 hours / pay period)

  • This is an on-site position 

  • On-call rotation to support 24/7 operation of the program

  • Must have the ability to respond on-site in emergencies during on call

  • Encountering participants at program sites who may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and/or experiencing symptoms of mental illness can be expected
