Nature & Scope:

The Youth Gambling Program is an initiative of the YMCA of Greater Toronto, in collaboration with certain other YMCAs across Ontario.  The project consists of education and prevention strategies designed to reduce the potential harm associated with youth problem gambling.

The Bilingual Program Coordinator, Youth Gambling Awareness Program supports the French delivery of the program by providing leadership to the Youth Gambling Outreach Workers across the Province of Ontario. The Bilingual Coordinator will be responsible for leading the program’s curriculum development and overseeing the program’s provincial outreach strategy including online platforms and social media.  They will support the Manager to ensure all program’s contractual obligations are met and prepare research and analysis of trends and program activities.

Responsibilities:

Coach, monitor and support Youth Outreach Workers, YOWs, across Ontario on YGAP delivery to ensure contract targets are met and program curriculum is delivered, policy and procedures are followed;

Lead program’s content/curriculum development and YGAP’s online presence (delivery of provincial webinars, social media strategy, websites, etc.)

Plan and execute provincial youth engagement and community involvement projects

Liaises and maintains regular contact with YOWs, their local supervisors and partner YMCA associations provincially and supports them in the delivery of the YGAP and meeting requirements of YGAP’s contribution agreements/contracts;

Problem solves issues related to curriculum delivery, staffing, performance management, meeting of targets as set out in contribution agreement;

Responsible for coordinating the recruiting, hiring, coaching and supporting YGAP Youth Outreach Workers to ensure contract targets are met as necessary

Provide training to new YGAP staff and provide one large yearly training event to enhance staff professional development

Develops and manages and monitors quality benchmarks

Works with program staff and other coordinators to develop program innovations and directions;

Prepares funder reports to review program and participant outcomes of contribution agreements at specified times, e.g.; Annual Reports completion;

Coordinates program delivery throughout the Province in conjunction with the funder, provincial staff team and local YMCAs;

Build relationships with key community agencies, and define and implement collaborative projects with the goal of raising gambling awareness in the community

Provides support in development and submission of proposals (conferences, grants, etc.)

Completes annual site visits to each delivery site in the Province to ensure quality, service agreement compliance and feedback to YOW’s regarding presentations

Demonstrates appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values as reflected in our YMCA competencies; takes a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the Association.  Represents the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner.

Understands the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services.

Understands the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • University degree preferred in Social Services, Youth Counselling, Public Health, Education or related field
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with outreach activities and strategies is required
  • Experience in working with youth in a Harm Reduction framework is preferred
  • Experience in co-ordination of public health, prevention and awareness activities; strong understanding of addictions and harm reduction principles; knowledge of gambling issues an asset
  • Previous experience in program management and staff management is an asset
  • Verbal and written fluency in French is required
  • Ability to work in an efficient manner with high degree of independence, ability to work well with ambiguity
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity
  • Must possess strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.), including database management
  • Flexibility with working hours (occasional weekends and evenings) and with travel and overnight stays are required
