Key Responsibilities: 

Strategic Planning Leadership:  

  • Leads and collaboratively works with the Board of Directors in charting the future course of the organization by implementing the goals and action plans to support the Vision, Mission and Values of the organization 

  • Responsible for submitting and reporting required documentation for continuation of funding. 

  • Collaborates with the Board in the preparation of strategic and annual plans.  

  • The CEO is a member and Secretary of the Board and organizes the Board meetings and serves as the primary Employee resource.  

  • Recommends organizational policy positions concerning legislation, government, administrative policies and other matters of public policy. 

  • Guides the organization, creatively and strategically, towards both growth and innovation. 

  • Demonstrates future planning to address the changing climate and environment and changing business needs as well as the impact of new or changing legislation or reporting requirements. 

  • Creates a work environment that is appropriate to attract and retain high caliber Employees. Recruits, develops and motivates a strong Leadership Team that supports the organization's overarching goals. 

  • Ensures effective utilization of Employees for optimum service delivery. 

  • Establishes respectful relationships with the Board, government officials, business groups, Employees to facilitate harmonious interactions and successful outcomes. 

 
Strategic Finances and Revenue: 

  • Develops strong and positive relationships with provincial, federal government officials, bio-economy industry partners and potential business partnerships to realize viable revenue streams for the organization 

  • Secures the financial resources necessary to achieve the organization's objectives to the highest standards. 

  • Ensures diversification of current funding base. 

  • Works in collaboration with the Board to prepare and control the annual operating budget and to ensure alignment with the Strategic Plan. 

 
Stakeholder Relationships: 

  • Acts as a spokesperson for the Organization. Consults with the Board on media management of high profile or contentious issues. 

  • Maintains close liaison with professional colleagues and counterpart organizations at the provincial and federal levels. In doing so, keeps abreast of changes on other jurisdictions supporting stakeholders in the low carbon industry.   

  • Cultivates and maintains strong relationships and engages and collaborates with researchers, end-users and organizations moving towards identifying low-carbon solutions to identify service gaps and create solutions as well as to further the mission of the organization  

  • Creates industry connections at both the local and provincial levels. 

 
Risk Management: 

  • Ensures the Board of Directors or the delegate is informed of any potential risk exposure that has the potential to cause harm to the Organization 

  • Ensures the provision of adequate insurance for Organizational Liabilities and properties 

  • Ensures compliance with Ontario Employment Standards, Human Rights and other legal requirements, as appropriate. 


Reporting to the Board 

  • Implements and monitors the current Strategic Plan and Annual Business Plans. 

  • Communicates with the Board of Directors promptly to present the work completed or report challenges experienced in implementation. 

  • Develops and recommends to the Board of Directors proposals for innovative projects or programs to accelerate productivity, sustainability and profitability in the low carbon industry. 

  • Provides guidance, advice and support to the Board on process issues such as establishing and interpreting terms of reference, strategic planning, policy, governance and accountability. 

 
Qualifications and Employment Criteria: 

  • A relevant degree or diploma in Engineering or Science or other related background is preferred 

  • A minimum of 10 years of demonstrated leadership experience is required 

  • Proven experience in fundraising and cultivating government relationships. 

  • Strong Business Acumen: Identifies opportunities, facilitates strategic connections, and drives business conversations. 

  • Strong commitment to accelerating and furthering the mission of the organization of connecting organizations moving towards a sustainable low-carbon future 

  • Industry Expertise: Preferably have experience within the Process or Industrial Manufacturing or related industries. 

  • Proven ability to execute strategic plans and deliver results, with a clear vision for future growth. 

  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills. 

  • Completion of mandatory pre-employment credentials and references including (but not limited to) and Criminal Record Check. 

  • Working condition: Significant external engagements require frequent travel.

    Note: Location: Strongly prefer the candidate lives in Thunder Bay(relocation to the area is ideal) but for an exceptional candidate we will consider them to be based in Ottawa, Ontario with direct commercial airplane links to Thunder Bay to travel frequently to the area and the ability to travel within North America and Internationally as required.
