NABORS is looking for a creative community (& personal) support worker to support and assist a woman with community development, keeping active in her home & providing support care. This job is part time for 15 hours a week and will/can include relief work. The support may include personal care. This job will involve overnight shifts as well as shifts in the day/evening.

NABORS is a community of people living with a disability in Toronto and our circles of support. Our circles of support are made up of our friends and families who freely give their time to assist us to make informed decisions, act on choices, manage our paid supports and feel safe. Members are supported to live in the homes of our choice and be fully included within the surrounding communities.

The NABORS member that is currently hiring is seeking a Part Time Community Support Worker who has some knowledge with gentle care, and experience with supporting folks with an acquired brain injury. A love of nature, art, birds and gardening is a plus.

The Community Support Worker provides support by:

  • Assisting the member to create a home where they have maximum control over their environment, activities, and associations; where they can feel safe and secure and can welcome friends and family

  • Identify and assist in relationship building by the development of and support to natural relationships

  • Working with the members interests and circle input, facilitating the finding of, participation in and valued roles for the member within their home, co-operative living arrangements, and community life

  • Supporting the member to find fun and exciting ways to participate in the community that are unique and have potential to expand social circles for member.

  • Supporting the member’s health needs including personal care, physical, and nutritional needs

Requirements:

  • Experience with community support work - or an enthusiasm to learn while understanding peer support is universal. we are all interdependent. 

  • 3 doses of the covid vaccine and documentation is required

  • An understanding or experience with acquired brain injury: or experience in gentle leading.

  • An understanding in clear slow communication provides clarity and opportunity.

  • Experience/Training with Social Role Valorization or an enthusiasm to learn about it with training.

  • Experience in personal care or willingness to be trained in it.

The member who is currently hiring resides in Jane and Weston area of Toronto.

The hiring is conditional upon clearing a Vulnerable Sector Police check. Emergency First Aid & CPR will be required.

The starting pay is 22.00 an hour, and overnight shifts are starting at 19.50 an hour. Extended benefits are provided to staff that work over 25 hours a week consistently after 3 months.
