Sistering is a multi-service agency for at-risk, socially isolated women and trans people in Toronto who are homeless or precariously housed. Our harm reduction philosophy is a core element of all the work we do. We operate on a trauma-informed and relationship-based model. Our programs include a low-barrier 24/7 Drop In, Housing and Case Support, Harm Reduction, Peer Outreach, on-site Medical Clinic, On the Path to Employment and Spun Studio social enterprise.
POSITION SUMMARY:
We are looking for a talented Assistant Executive Director to continue to lead us toward our Vision:

You will report to and work with an engaged and visionary Executive Director. You are a collaborative and values-based leader able to motivate, mentor and engage staff, foster positive relations with the board, participants, community partners and funders. You bring fundraising experience and can seek out new and complementary partnerships to enhance services for our clients. You are a continuous learner who values personal growth. You are ready for a full-time role requiring occasional evening and weekends and travel within Toronto and, from time to time, elsewhere.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with the ED to set strategic priorities and effective implementation.
- Together with the ED lead and mentor a team of staff to design, deliver and evaluate efficient, effective programs that anticipate needs of clients and the communities we serve.
- Maintain strong working relationships with government, community groups, neighbours and other stakeholders.
- Exercise prudent and responsible financial stewardship for a current budget of approximately $6,000,000, ensuring complex funder reporting requirements are met.
- Recruit, hire and coach and empower a diverse team and foster a culture of trust and belonging.
- Proactively seek out and build positive collaborative relationships with other organizations, services, funders and programs
- Proactively seek out and apply for relevant grant opportunities and work with fundraising staff on all aspects of Sistering's outreach and marketing
- Ability to think creatively and strategically and to lead with vision and compassion

QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience, preferably in the not-for-profit/charitable sector.
- A post-secondary degree (Social Work, Nursing, other related fields or an appropriate combination of education and experience).
- Knowledge of mental health, substance use, social service systems, counseling and crisis intervention and the systems which govern and fund them.
- Strong skills in communication (written and oral), team building, networking, financial management, risk management, performance management and human resources (including in a unionized environment).
- Experience working with a diverse staff team.
- Successful fundraising track record.
- Demonstrated emotional intelligence, diplomacy and problem solving skills

WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position works in the office and community. Sistering is a 24/7 operation, fast paced, intense environment. There may be the risk of exposure to potentially unpredictable behaviours and situations.
