Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Sections and Professional Development (DSPD), the Manager of Sections (MS) acts as a staff liaison to the National Sections Sub-committee (NSS), and liaises with CBA committees, staff, volunteers, government, and the public in relation to Section activities.

$85000.00

Responsibilities

  • Works with the DSPD and the National Sections Sub-committee to ensure effective operation of thirty-nine Sections in accordance with CBA budget and procedures
  • Assists with policy development and implementation within the mandate of the CBA
  • Acts as staff liaison to two Sections, participating in meetings and conference calls as required
  • Responsible for agenda development and preparation of draft minutes for NSS Executive meetings
  • Facilitates interaction and coordination with regard to National Section activities supported by CBA Communications, Legislation and Law Reform and Continuing Legal Education Directorates and Section involvement in relevant CBA National initiatives
  • Represents the CBA, National Sections Sub-committee or individual Sections at various CBA and government meeting or events, including presentations to or about National Sections
  • Responsible for CBA documentation and articles concerning Sections, individual Section Blasts, and various reports including Section content for internal  briefing  materials
  • Liaises with CBA Senior Officers, the Executive Director, CBA staff and volunteers, and representatives of government and national/international organizations and the general public on matters concerning National Sections
  • Provides information and liaises with CBA Branch Executive Directors, staff and Branch Section volunteers concerning National Sections activities
  • Responsible for a team of Sections staff, the Manager provides leadership and coordinates project management to ensure effective departmental operation and support to CBA Sections.

Staff Management

  • Lead and manage a team of varying levels and sizes in the development and implementation of sections strategy, policy, programs and day to day operations.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, motivating, morale, supervision, guidance, delegation, instruction, discipline, teamwork, and interpersonal relations within the department.
  • Report to and work with the Director of Sections and Professional Development in respect of the carrying out of all responsibilities and duties as MS; provide the DSPD with all appropriate information relating to Sections on a timely and effective basis; carry out all other instructions and duties as specified from time to time

Qualifications

Educational and Professional Requirements

  • Three or more years of experience in the area of management in a related field.
  • Three or more years of experience in the area of volunteer coordination.
  • Post-secondary education in a related field.

  • This is a leadership position requiring effective teamwork.  Ideally, the candidate will have strong leadership skills and experience and track record in leading a team in the successful achievement of multiple professional goals
  • Requires the ability, as a leader, to develop a cohesive vision and strategy and the ability to implement that vision and strategy with the team and within the context of a larger organization
  • Requires the ability to articulate vision, strategy and goals, to develop consensus in respect of same and to oversee their effective implementation in a fast-paced environment
  • Requires the ability to work effectively as part of a larger team, to work with and report to a director, and to follow such instructions, guidelines, policies and informal practices as may be appropriate
  • Requires the ability to make effective judgments as appropriate and in accordance with CBA practice or to seek guidance and advice from more senior resources

Impact

This position is in frequent contact with CBA members and the general public.  Similarly, the programs for which the MS is responsible are highly visible and the successful outcome of those sessions reflect favorably upon the organization.
