Indspire’s vision is to create a national mentorship program that supports academic and career success of Indigenous students with the transition from high school to professional lives. Indspire will provide a continuum of mentorship tools and resources to these students.

Reporting to the Director, Programs and Student Success, the Manager has accountability for delivering on the goals of the Student Success programs by managing a team who will:

  • Create mentorship spaces where First Nations, Inuit and Métis students can have a range of needs met from financial literacy to mental health challenges
  • Generate opportunities for students to connect, reclaim and be part of the revitalization of their languages, medicines, ceremonies, cultural teachings through inter-generational knowledge sharing tied to mentorship opportunities that support their ability to successful walk in two worlds
  • Wherever possible, aim for students to have mentors who are Indigenous and/or access to a strong elder/knowledge carrier support resource to ensure that students have Indigenous champions in their post-secondary experience
  • Manage innovative educational offerings and initiatives such as Teach for Tomorrow and workshops on reconciliation

Position Responsibilities

  • Provides management and oversight to the Student Success team through coaching/mentoring, performance management, while promoting a positive collaborative and culturally safe work environment
  • Oversee the delivery of high quality and meaningful mentorship initiatives across stakeholder groups
  • Collaborates with Director to develop and design Indspire’s mentorship initiatives
  • Manages and delivers on a variety of other educational initiatives that advance student success
  • Advocates for continuous improvement of existing programs and development of new mentorship models with internal and external partners
  • Enhances and expands high-quality programs by leading a team to plan, develop, and implement impactful community programs and partnerships that respond to local needs and context
  • Connects and collaborate with private, public, and non-profit organizations to identify partnership opportunities
  • Represents the organization in community, on working groups, and committees as appropriate
  • Collaborates with the Development department on proposals to attract private sector funding for mentorship activities and to report to funders on impact and outcomes
  • Leads comprehensive evaluation of the program
  • Oversees the collection of program information, data and provides periodic program reports and other reports as required
  • Develops ways to leverage existing data to influence and frame new growth opportunities
  • Tracks and monitors expenditures ensuring program budget management is in keeping with the program budgetary guidelines
  • Works closely with Manager, Building Brighter Futures and Lead Researcher

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and/or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in project coordination or program management
  • Experience in the education sector essential
  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years of managerial or supervisory experience
  • Excellent organizational time management skills, including the ability to organize workload, set priorities and respond effectively to competing demands
  • Strong judgment and analytical skills, ability to work under pressure, manage and prioritize competing demands
  • Proven experience in engaging Indigenous communities and deep knowledge of culture, traditions and/or language, preferably with lived experience
  • Strong relationship building and relationship management skills
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing complex stakeholder engagement initiatives
  • Proven employee coach, adept at managing performance and people
  • Adept at managing conflict and emotionally charged individuals
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others including mentors/mentees
  • Ability to travel to support recruitment and training as program needs arise
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office and database systems
