POSITION: Senior Manager, Indigenous Collaboration

STATUS: Full-time, Permanent

DEPARTMENT: Community Impact & Strategy            

REPORTS TO: VP, Community Opportunities and Mobilization

BASIC FUNCTION: In partnership with Indigenous community leaders, to implement drive and adapt an interdepartmental Indigenous Collaboration work plan that focuses on organizational culture, community investments, research and public policy

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, manage and maintain relationships, structures and tools that support the Indigenous Collaboration Framework, including action plans, goals and high-level outcomes with internal and external stakeholders and partners
  • Continuously identify areas of alignment between the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's (TRC) Calls to Action, other Indigenous lead reports and recommendations and United Way's strategic priorities and make recommendations to advance actions related to reconciliation
  • Develop, evolve and implement plans for external stakeholder mobilization to contribute to United Way's work including ways to foster new partnerships and further develop existing relationships with a range of organizations and across sectors
  • Support oversight of Indigenous initiatives, including grant making, liaising with internal and external stakeholders and tracking the disbursement of funds
  • Establish partnership contracts and memoranda of understanding, overseeing achievement of key project deliverables, and financial accountability
  • Identify organizational, governance, financial and/or program delivery issues with funded agencies and assist in developing a plan for resolution
  • Assist in the development of capacity building activities, including researching tools and materials and coordinating delivery of workshops and events
  • Co-create an evaluation framework and assess options for shared outcomes with partners
  • Ensure that diverse perspectives are meaningfully included and inform ongoing learning and framework implementation
  • Act as a subject matter expert on Indigenous priorities and engagement, and support related initiatives led by internal stakeholders including People & Culture, Donor Relations, Donor Engagement and Community Impact teams
  • Gather relevant data from multiple sources, synthesize and prepare information for further analysis, develop solutions and recommendations

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Intimate knowledge of and expertise in the Indigenous communities' priorities including familiarity with key Indigenous stakeholders in Toronto, Peel and York Region
  • More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years' experience leading and managing multi-stakeholder engagement initiatives and cross-cultural partnerships
  • Proven skills to engage community and build bridges to institutional partners
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to coordinate complex initiatives with a variety of constituents
  • Ability to take initiative and effectively lead projects to completion with a diverse set of stakeholders and leverage subject matter expertise
  • Ability to successfully navigate changing priorities, comfort with ambiguous situations and ability to coach and lead others through change
  • Highly developed analytical skills and use of independent judgement to problem solve
  • Strong political acuity, sound judgment and highly developed problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to influence, negotiate and manage contentious issues to resolution
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage, foster and grow constituent relationships
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Post-secondary education in a related field and combination equivalent work-related experience preferred
