Yorktown Family Services

Provides a comprehensive range of mental health services for children, youth and families who are experiencing serious emotional/social/behavioral difficulties along with several gender-based violence initiatives. Yorktown is currently seeking a Child and Youth Worker who will join the team of professionals at Yorktown to support children, youth, young adults and their families who have faced barriers accessing mental and social health services in West Toronto and are from Black identified and Indigenous communities with a priority focus on Black identified male youth.

Primary Function

Yorktown Family Services is seeking a Child and Youth Worker to be part of a wider team within an integrated care model. The primary role will be to engage children, youth, and young adults and their caregivers from Black identified and Indigenous communities who have faced barriers accessing services in West Toronto. The new position will have caregivers develop in home management strategies for their children and youth, one to one support for children and youth, and connect children, youth, and families to a wider resource if needed.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with children, youth, young adults and their caregivers
  • Support children, youth, young adults and their caregivers with day to day activities through a trauma informed perspective
  • Co-develop child, youth, young adult management strategies with caregivers
  • Provide trauma informed, support and guidance to children, youth and young adults who are experiencing emotional and /or behavioral difficulties which impact their ability to function.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans and interventions for the youth in collaboration with program manager, consultants, staff members, teachers and parents/guardians.
  • Develop and implements therapeutic life skills programs.
  • Use and increase knowledge to traditions and cultural beliefs in the healing process when appropriate.
  • Directly support children, youth and families to connect with Traditional Knowledge Keepers, Healers, Elders, Community Leaders, Extended Family Members as part of a wider support network
  • Develop and implement group programming for youth and young adults

Qualifications

  • CYC degree or CYW diploma
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience working in home based programs or residential settings or child and youth mental health setting
  • Being a member of the CYC Association is an asset
  • Enthusiasm and skill working to support change with a multi-challenged, diverse client population
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including report writing
  • Superb interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team setting
  • Demonstrated skills and experience working in collaboration with other service providers
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings is essential and weekends from time to time
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening is required.
  • Assets include experience running groups and fluency in a second language
  • Access to a reliable vehicle is a definite asset
  • Need to provide virtual services and access to a computer and internet
