About this position

P/T Parent Support Worker – Temporary position for up to 1 year

  • 27 temporary hours per week, preferred availability on Thursdays (other days are flexible)
  • Possible additional contract hours
  • To provide prevention and intervention services to at-risk parents
  • To provide outreach parenting groups and individual sessions in New Westminster and Burnaby
  • To start mid-January until December 31, 2019 or upon return of incumbent

                 

Key Responsibility Area – Client Assessment and Counselling

  • Interview clients
  • Prepare case history and background information
  • Develop case plan
  • To provide counselling services to parents with young children
  • To provide information and education regarding child development, including sexual and emotional development

Key Responsibility Area – Referral, Information and Consultation

  • To liaise with other agencies/professionals regarding clients for purposes of consultation or referral

Key Responsibility Area – Training Modules

  • Develop training modules
  • Planning and service delivery of modules
  • Teach training modules

Key Responsibility Area – Case Management

  • Assess and implement treatment and interventions with families
  • To provide occasional crisis intervention to clients
  • Assess length of participation in program
  • Evaluate effectiveness of program
  • Monitor clients progress and provide follow-up planning

Key Responsibility Area – Administration

  • Maintain client files and reports
  • Complete all required data collection, including clinical stats
  • Submit time sheets and other information as required
  • Prepare education handout for parents, clients and community

Key Responsibility Area – Professional Development

  • Keep abreast of development in the field of early childhood education
  • Attend specified workshops and conferences
  • Network with colleagues and other professionals in the field

Qualifications

  • Minimum of Bachelor degree in social work, counselling or a related field
  • Minimum of two years counselling experience including work with adults
  • Knowledge of child protection and legal systems
  • Previous group facilitation
  • Crisis intervention skills
  • Knowledge of early childhood development
  • Competence and comfort in working with diversity
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a professional team
  • Driver’s License

Other:

  • This position is covered under a collective agreement.
  • May supervise volunteers and practicum students
