Regional Coordinator, Volunteer Services – BC Cancer Surrey/Abbotsford

 

Help us harness the capabilities of volunteers so we can provide more services to people dealing with cancer.

 

In this role, you will:

 

  • Recruit, train and supervise volunteers for BC Cancer Surrey (0.6 FTE) and Abbotsford (0.4 FTE.)
  • Manage the volunteer services budget including revenue generating services.
  • Develop, monitor and evaluate new volunteer programs and services to meet patient and staff needs.
  • Develop partnerships within the community and promote volunteer services internally and externally.

 

Accountabilities

 

As our successful candidate, you will:

  • Recruit, interview and train volunteers. Monitor performance; educate and support.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate program goals to meet client/patient needs and the strategic direction of the cancer centre. Develop position descriptions and assess viability of new volunteer role requests. Establish and maintain related policies and procedures.
  • Create, implement and evaluate revenue producing strategies such as garage sales, book exchanges and farmers and craft markets to ensure the long term financial viability and self-sufficiency of volunteer services. Manage retail operations and revenue generation services.
  • Work with Coordinators to ensure action plans, standards of practice, volunteer management cycle and annual business planning goals are met.
  • Foster partnerships with groups such as the Canadian Cancer Society, community oncology programs, school board and educational institutions to leverage resources and attract volunteers.

 

You have:

  • A Volunteer Management certificate.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Or the equivalent in education and training.
  • At least four (4) years of recent, related experience in a not-for-profit organization handling fund-raising and/or revenue generation.  
  • Strong communication skills, including public speaking.
  • The ability to interact with a variety of people and personalities and to motivate and encourage volunteers.
  • The ability to work as a cooperative and supportive team member.
  • Strong organizational skills including event planning.
  • Problem solving abilities.
  • The ability to use volunteer management and other software.
