We are currently seeking a Counsellor to join our dynamic Recognizing Individual Success and Excellence (RISE) team. The RISE program is a school-based, multi-faceted program which addresses the needs of children who are displaying signs of anti-social behaviour in the classroom, home and community. Ideal candidates should be passionate about serving youth and families and have strong therapeutic skills and child/youth and family engagement skills.

In this permanent full-time, Bargaining Unit Position, incumbents are expected to:

  • Provide individual and family counselling, and increase home school linkage to children ages 6-9 years, who are exhibiting anti-social behaviour
  • Devise goals and implement individual plans for children participating in the program
  • Connect children and families to group and recreational opportunities within the community
  • Provide referrals to additional and alternative resources, as necessary
  • Maintain professional documentation, in the form of assessments, progress reports and discharge summaries
  • Establish and maintain professional alliances with collateral agencies/institutions
  • Work flexible hours related to the treatment needs of the clients, evening work may be required

  • Minimum Bachelor of Social Work, or an undergraduate degree in a related social science field
  • Membership in the appropriate professional regulatory body under the Psychotherapy Act
  • Minimum two years’ experience providing counselling to children and their families
  • Client assessment and engagement skills, as well as goal formulation and intervention planning skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multi-needs clients utilizing a goal-focused approach
  • Experience with administration of InterRAI ChYMH and EMHware database an asset
  • Fluency in French or other languages is considered an asset

Salary Range: $46,230 – $55,275
