Reporting to the Manager, Clinical Services, the Supervisor, Mdewgaan Lodge is responsible for overseeing the first ever urban residential setting for mothers and their children who are dealing with addictions, mental health and trauma. The Mdewgaan Lodge is a 24 hour, seven days a week facility in the heart of Toronto. The families live at the Lodge for approximately four months. The Supervisor, Mdewgaan Lodge is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations and general administration of the program, the Lodge and staffing. Where clinical consultation is required, the Supervisor and staff are to consult with Manager, Clinical Services.
Major Responsibilities:
The Supervisor, Mdewgaan Lodge is responsible for:
1. Maintaining and supporting a residential treatment program in accordance with NCFST and partner agency policies and procedures.
2. Managing the program’s budget and petty cash.
3. Overseeing the hiring, training and the scheduling of Residential Counsellors, the Cook and the Support and Relief Workers.
4. Ensuring that there is coverage for staff vacations and sick days.
5. Ensuring that the program is implemented and operated in a manner consistent with NCFST’s cultural base, its agreements with funders and its accountability structures.
6. Supervising Residential Counsellors, Support Workers, Relief Workers and the Cook in the performance and evaluation of their jobs. This includes, but is not limited to, participating in interviewing applicants, training new employees, evaluating performance and preparing written performance appraisals, listening to concerns and effectively resolving disputes or problems, taking corrective or disciplinary action, developing work schedules, and monitoring work assignments.
7. Providing supervision with day to day programming and staff. This includes, but is not limited to, reviewing client files, maintaining and monitoring confidentiality to ensure compliance with prevailing regulations, policy, procedure, contract requirements and licensing standards.
8. Ordering food, supplies and materials and establishing routines and structures for the house.
9. Scheduling and chairing weekly team meetings.
10. Coordinating admissions in conjunction with the Case Manager.
11. Serving as a resource and providing or arranging for training as requested/necessary.
12. Observing residents during program activities, providing consultation in response to needs or concerns, and assisting in managing resolutions.
13. Ensuring that staff are addressing the cultural needs of the clients including the utilization of Elders and Traditional Teachers.
14. Maintaining and updating the policy & procedure manual in conjunction with the Manager, Clinical Services.
15. Assisting with partnering opportunities, linkage/support agreements and other critical relationships with internal and external resources.
16. Maintaining current knowledge of community resources and social service providers, may also attend community planning committees and develop working relationships.
17. Working in accordance with the provincial and occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, policies and procedures
18. Other duties as assigned by Manager, Clinical Services.
Qualifications:
- Combination of education, training and/or experience in a residential setting.
- Some experience working in clinical setting is an asset.
- Must have at least one year of experience as a supervisor of a residential program, preferably in addictions and mental health and /or parent – child relational work.
- Understanding and grounding in cultural and social issues affecting Aboriginal people.
- Have trauma informed experience.
- Experience working within a multi-disciplinary holistic setting is an asset.
- Knowledge of all relevant regulations, policies and procedures.
- Leadership skills to provide direction, guidance and advice to program staff.
- Excellent listening skills and adept at conflict resolution/ problem solving.
- Excellent relationship building skills and ability to work within a team.
- Demonstrated organizational skills.
- Self-starter, able to work autonomously and generate ideas.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications or other similar software applications is preferred
- Report writing and compilation skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of workplace health and safety practices and understanding of an employee’s responsibilities under the current legislation.
