SALARY RANGE: $33, 700.00 year

Summary of the Primary Job Functions:
The Kitchen Support Worker is responsible for the menu planning, preparation, and implementation of the Drop-In meal services. They will work with the program staff to ensure of all aspects of the meal program is operating efficiently and in accordance with the City of Toronto’s Public Health Guidelines and Food Handling standards.
About Weston King/Mount Dennis Neighbourhood Centres:
Weston King Neighbourhood Centre and Mount Dennis Neighbourhood Centre are sister sites serving the Weston and Mount Dennis communities since 2003 as a front-lines drop-in centre and employment incubator. WKNC and MDNC have been dedicated to promoting and developing food initiatives that positively impact and improve our community. Through our programs, residents and community members eat, grow, cook, share, and sell food while making our sites a meeting and connection point in our community. Population served are: people who are experiencing mental health issues, substance users, people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, individuals who are socially isolated, and/or living in extreme poverty; the term WKNC includes its satellite Mount Dennis Neighbourhood Centre.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees the day to day of the Weston King Drop-in meal program: Preparation of breakfast and lunch
- Prepare for the next day’s food services
- Assist with the planning of weekly and event menus
- Ensure that coffee and snacks are available to participants during drop-In center service hours
- Ensure that kitchen area is kept clean and tidy at all times
- Ensure dishes are washed and dried, according to City of Toronto Public Health Food Handling standards
- Assist with maintaining a clean drop-in before and after closing i.e. wiping of table, chairs up, and open and close the windows
- Ensures the overall operation of the site is fully inclusive and mission driven
- Collaborates with staff, board, management, and volunteers to develop work plans, budgets, and partnerships
- Supervises, manages, evaluates, and supports the volunteers and students
- Contributes and attends to partnership and team meetings
- Provides Monthly, Quarterly and Yearly Reports
- Encourages and regularly reports on participant/staff feedback regarding programs and activities
- Recommends and advises on improvements to operational policies and procedures
- Participates in operational, fund raising and internal committee meetings and external meetings as requested
- Participates in all organizational strategic reviews as requested
- Supervises and maintains up to date and confidential information
- Ensure client confidentiality is maintained and train staff to adhere to all Policies and Procedures of organization
- Identifies, evaluates and reports to board all risks to assets, property, finances and goodwill
- Implements sound decisions to control risks, ensuring all Health and Safety Regulations for worksites are met
- Coordinates Staff/Volunteers to outreach to partner and local agencies as it relates to current programming
- Encourages the development of and participation in the networks of service providers, community development and advocacy initiatives, including attending regular meetings of the TDIN
Experience, Skills and Knowledge:
- 3 years’ experience working in a community based kitchen setting
- Food knowledge and awareness with dietary foods
- Knowledge of the Canadian Food Guide
- Extensive communication skills – both written and verbal
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel and
- Understanding issues of extreme poverty, homelessness, substance use and mental health/wellness
- Ability to work within a multicultural/multi-racial organization in a dynamic, community-based setting
- An Interest and proven track record in community development, social enterprise and/or program evaluation
- Ability to work alongside, motivate and empower staff, volunteers and Board
- Good understanding of finances of small to medium non-profit organizations
- Knowledge of the Weston / Mount Dennis Communities would be an asset
- Proven Social Enterprise Experience would be an asset
Education/Training:
- Diploma or degree in the Culinary or Food Industry or Equivalent
- Food Handling Certification
- Provide a Clear Police Records Check (Vulnerable sector)
- Crisis Prevention Intervention, Restorative Justice or Conflict Resolution
- Supervision/Leadership
