LOFT Community Services is a unique and dynamic charitable organization that supports people living with complicated issues such as mental and physical health challenges, substance abuse, poverty and homelessness. Serving over 5300 people and providing 1654 units of supportive housing last year, LOFT is one of Ontario’s largest mental health service providers of its kind. To help fulfill its mission, LOFT is hiring a Relief Worker.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Relief Worker is to provide assistance and support to adult consumers living with mental illnesses and addiction issues in a LOFT residence on a casual or as needed basis.

Note: staff will be required to work in residents’ rooms and may be exposed to second hand smoke. In addition, a satisfactory vulnerable sector check (VSC) is a requirement of employment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Understanding of harm reduction, the logic model and psychosocial rehabilitation principles as acquired through a relevant degree/diploma and or experience in human services;
  • Knowledge of issues faced by adults with special needs, which will include: addictions and cognitive impairments;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Good crisis intervention and problem solving skills;
  • Computer literate;
  • Experience in working with limited supervision but as  part of a team of professionals;
  • First Aid and CPR;
  • Fluency in second language an asset;
  • Understanding of cultural competency and anti-oppression framework;
  • Reflective of a multi-barriered group, as serviced by the program, a strong asset
