Niagara Children’s Centre is hiring for

MULTIPLE OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST ROLES (FULL-TIME AND PART TIME PERMANENT)

Niagara Children’s Centre is recognized throughout the Niagara Region as the provider of rehabilitation and support services to children and youth with physical, developmental and communicative delays and disabilities.   Core services include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language services, augmentative and alternative communication, family services and therapeutic recreation.

The Occupational Therapist works to improve participation and quality of life through a child’s ability to perform role-appropriate, day-to-day tasks necessary for self-care (such as feeding, dressing, toileting); productivity (such as school, work); and leisure and play within his or her environment.  This process involves assessment, identification of strengths and needs, goal-setting, treatment planning, and implementation of treatment in a direct, indirect or consultative manner, as indicated, then discharge. 

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assessing the needs of children, youth and their families utilizing a variety of testing tools (including standardized and non-standardized assessment of the child’s neuromuscular, sensorimotor, cognitive, and psychosocial skills as well as the physical and sociocultural characteristics of the child’s environments);
  • Providing follow-up for children and families after the initial assessment to assist in the development of service plans;
  • Collaborating with the child/youth and family, teacher, school, other therapists, and others who may be involved, to identify goals and to establish an appropriate treatment plan to achieve these goals;
  • Educating children/ youth and families related to their specific needs, utilizing a variety of strategies and through a variety of mediums (group, individual, lectures etc.);
  • Empowering clients in effective coping, decision making, problem solving, and communication around the needs of the child/youth and family;
  • Assisting and advocating for children/youth and families to obtain all required services;
  • Providing timely reports in accordance with regulatory guidelines and Niagara Children’s Centre documentation protocols; and
  • Supervising student placements as required.

  • A post secondary degree in Occupational Therapy;
  • Registration and membership in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario;
  • Several years’ experience providing Occupational Therapy services to children and families;
  • Demonstrated understanding and skill in the practice of Occupational Therapy (assessment, treatment plan development, case management/intervention, counselling strategies, motivating children, youth and families etc.)
  • Proven ability to work effectively with children/youth and their families including complex care children and families and effectively managing workload;
  • French Language Proficiency is considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and previous experience with documentation software to meet reporting requirements;
  • Superior advocacy, communication, organizational and time management skills;
  • Current CPR certification;
  • Certificate in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training; and
  • Access to a vehicle and Possession of a driver’s license valid for the province of Ontario is required.
