Job Purpose 

The Paralympic Foundation of Canada (PFC) is seeking a Manager, Major Gifts & Campaigns to join our Foundation team.  Reporting to the Director, Foundation and working closely with the  PFC and Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) staff teams, the Manager, Major Gifts & Campaigns will play a key role in our ongoing  multi-year major gifts campaign by executing the strategy to obtain support from our top prospects.

Working with internal leaders and external community volunteers, the successful candidate will foster and enhance relationships with existing and potential individual, foundation and corporate donors, with the goal of maximizing support for our priority projects.  This position represents a tremendous opportunity to be part of a historic major campaign initiative to inspire the Paralympic movement in Canada while also promoting inclusion and accessibility.

The successful candidate possesses a positive track record in the personal solicitation of major donors, engaging and leveraging senior volunteers in major gift fundraising and campaigns, establishing cultivation and solicitation strategies to approach individuals, corporations and foundations, and in identifying tactics to achieve strategic objectives. 

 

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Plan, develop, and implement strategies for obtaining campaign major gift donations from individual, corporate and foundation prospects, working closely with the Director, Foundation, members of the senior management team,  Board members, Campaign Cabinet members, and other key volunteers
  • Conduct exploratory visits, cultivation visits, solicitation calls and stewardship activities, alone and with senior staff and campaign volunteers
  • Plan and execute campaign donor recognition and stewardship plans in order to maximize campaign support at the major gift levels
  • Create additional materials to support campaign fundraising activities, including proposals, presentations, briefing notes and correspondence, working with the support of the Communications staff
  • Assist in developing case for support documentation and deliver presentations to prospective donors
  • Develop and implement innovative original fundraising campaigns
  • Provide input on major gift/campaign revenue projections, forecasting and budgeting exercises
  • Energize, motivate and inspire all those involved in helping to meet campaign goals
  • Undertake prospect review and evaluation with campaign volunteers, Board members, Foundation leadership and staff, and others as required
  • Assure and support the strategic, intentional, and active cultivation of prospective donors

 

Education 

  • An undergraduate degree or diploma in a relevant discipline or a combination of training and related experience
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification is considered an asset  

 

Knowledge and Skills 

  • Strong working knowledge of modern and progressive fundraising techniques, donation administration and management
  • Experience and proven track record with the successful implementation of major gifts programs and campaigns
  • Knowledge of major giving and campaign concepts and approaches to donor cultivation, stewardship and marketing
  • Exceptional networking, relationship management, listening and negotiating skills, with the ability to build trust and elicit confidence from prospects, donors, corporate representatives, staff, and senior level volunteers
  • Strong business writing, presentation, verbal communication and selling skills
  • Ability to develop new relationships and cultivate existing ones in developing new prospects
  • Ability to operate with sensitivity and confidentiality
  • Ability to achieve work objectives within a changing and busy environment
  • Able to communicate and write in both official languages
  • Proficiency with office applications such as email, project planning, word processing, presentation development, CRM, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with both internal and external colleagues (e.g. CPC employees, vendors, sub-contractors)
  • Knowledge of the sport system considered an asset

 

 Experience 

  • Five or more years’ experience working in the field of fundraising
  • Solid understanding of fundraising
  • Experience establishing and managing operational plans and budgets
  • Experience working in a national context and with other cultures
  • Experience managing change using innovative ideas and processes
  • Experience as a Paralympian is considered as an asset
