About this position
Understanding how people use our platform, and the new features we deploy every day, is a crucial part of the product development process at Kickstarter. We're looking for someone to join our Data Team full-time at our Brooklyn headquarters.
About the Team
The Data & Insights team at Kickstarter has developed cutting-edge infrastructure to help us collect and aggregate data from our production applications, largely built on AWS. We work closely with Product and Engineering teams to develop a deep, dimensional understanding of how people use Kickstarter.
About the Role
On a daily basis, you'll help monitor platform usage, investigate trends, and collaborate with colleagues across Kickstarter to ask the right questions about our products. Additionally, you’ll develop hypotheses and carry out tests to prove (or disprove!) them in conjunction with product managers, designers, and engineers. This primarily means constructing, deploying, and analyzing A/B tests, but could also include surveys, competitive intelligence, and other forms of research.
Long term, you’ll cultivate a nuanced understanding of the Kickstarter product and lead open-ended research to discover the most impactful features for our product teams to build. Your insights and wisdom will be essential to how Kickstarter evolves.
About You
- You have a healthy understanding of product development lifecycles. You are comfortable separating signal from noise and at ease when it comes to communicating stories behind data.
- You are familiar with tools like R and Python to explore and visualize data.
- You know how to build models with Looker, our BI tool of choice.
- You have demonstrated experience in data-driven product analysis.
- You have a solid command of the statistics required to do data science on the web.
- You can demonstrate extensive SQL knowledge and are at ease wrangling large datasets.
- You’ve worked at a data-driven organization and understand what it means to focus on key metrics.
- You value communicating insights concisely, accurately, and meaningfully to a diverse audience.
- You enjoy “getting it right” above all: the fears of analyzing biased data and confusing causation with correlation keep you up at night.
- Experience with tools like Redshift, Looker, R, Ruby on Rails, or similar technologies is a strong plus!
This position is full-time and on-site at our beautiful office in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Kickstarter is a Public Benefit Corporation, and our mission is to help bring creative projects to life.
