COMPENSATION: $20.61/hour

To help fulfill its mission, LOFT is hiring a Relief Personal Support Worker.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Personal Support Worker, will provide assistance and support on a full time basis in support of older adults living within permanent and transitional housing.

What You Will Do:

  1. Assisting with personal care and homemaking, including meal preparation, unit cleaning.
  2. Assisting with design and implementation of the social/recreational program for the
  3. residents, accompanying the residents to medical appointments and working with
  4. community services associated with the personal support program or with partners,
  5. family members and friends.
  6. Taking the lead with scheduling, meal planning and program inventory, which will include
  7. Infection Control supplies and staff task assignments, under the supervision of the
  8. Program Director.
  9. Attending meetings in collaboration with the Centre of Addiction and Mental Health
  10. (CAMH) team.
  11. Monitoring the activities of the residents, assess potential crisis situations and imminent
  12. Risk, provide reports to CAMH staff regarding client concerns.
  13. Providing basic maintenance and cleaning of common areas, preparing/serving meals.
  14. Supervising the property and keeping an up-to-date inventory of supplies.
  15. Maintaining the established routines of the program including all security, fire and
  16. General health and safety practices.

What You Will Bring:

  • Completion of a post-secondary education such as Personal Support Worker Certificate, Health Care Aide Certificate, Registered Practical Nurse Certificate;
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in providing personal support to vulnerable adults with special needs including addictions, cognitive impairments, justice involvement and/or mental health issues;
  • In depth knowledge of the forensic system; primarily the Ontario Review Board
  • Must have current Food Handling Certification;
  • Experience assisting with medications and training staff with medication procedures
  • Follow up with incident reports
  • Ability to organize social recreational activities and work with individuals and groups;
  • Ability to interact with clients in a positive and supportive manner;
  • Physically able to perform demanding body mechanics, (i.e. lifting, transferring, pushing, pulling);
  • First Aid and CPR certification, knowledge of universal precautions;
  • Good oral and written skills in English, fluency in a second language is an asset;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently
  • Able to handle stressful situations in a positive manner;
  • Willingness to work in client apartments and possibly be exposed to second hand smoke.
  • Multi-tasking and time management skills related to
  • Understanding of cultural competency and anti-oppression framework;
  • Reflective of a multi-barriered group, as serviced by the program, a strong asset
