Marketing & Communications Manager
The Mississauga Food Bank’s (TMFB) vision is a Mississauga where no one goes hungry. We relieve hunger in Mississauga by providing and promoting access to healthy food for people in need.
Are you a seasoned marketing professional with a knack for making a difference? TMFB is on the hunt for a Marketing & Communications Manager who can lead and manage a variety of marketing and communication tactics that will both inspire people to give and help those in need access food. You have a digital first approach, and love diving deep into data and trends that help grow an organization.
Job Purpose

Develop and execute robust marketing and communications campaigns that leverage direct and digital channels to grow TMFB’s presence in the community, and inspire people to give

Project manage and work cross-departmentally to plan, build, and execute the organization's marketing strategy, working closely with other departments to ensure they are getting the internal support they require to be successful
Key Performance Areas
External Marketing & Communications (60%)

Website: Be the main point of contact across the organization for the website

Work with the marketing coordinator to identify outdated information and liaise with our web vendor to complete updates or enhancements that cannot be done internally

Own the purchasing and/or subscriptions for any domains, integrations, etc.

Ensure the integrity of our web presence, including developing and reviewing any content that gets published

Pull reports through Google Analytics to drive strategic decisions

Social media: Oversee TMFB’s editorial calendar

Optimize and oversee an organic and paid social media strategy that integrates the work we are doing internally with campaigns that are being managed by our direct response agency

Ensure community management and posting is carried out in alignment with strategy and in a timely manner by Marketing Coordinator

Oversee our growth on social, with a particular focus on lead generation. Report on growth and areas of concern

Email marketing: Act as the main point of contact for all mass communications going out across the organization via Mailchimp.

Work with all departments to ensure all external communications are on brand and fit our organizational tone. Work with each project lead and provide strategic recommendations in regards to messaging, CTAs, audience and timing

Support the Marketing Coordinator in building and developing emails

Digital advertising: As a digital marketing expert, look for opportunities to build out a larger online presence to attract and retain donors.

Look for, suggest, and support implementing ways to simplify our user flow between systems (Raiser’s Edge, Mailchimp, Volunteer Hub)

Communications: Ownership of TMFB’s brand voice, ensuring all departments are using consistent and relevant messaging and that talking points are kept up to date

Work with the Director of Marketing and Communications to establish appropriate messaging for particular audiences on and offline, including impact reports

Media relations: Actively seek out opportunities to increase brand reach and visibility in the community at a regional and provincial level

Build out any required presentations, press releases or advisories, speaking notes, or scripts

Work with the Marketing Coordinator to build assets, including client stories, images, secure interviews, etc.

Track and evaluate all earned media

Seek out and engage prospective and current influencers to broaden TMFB’s reach

Stakeholder relations: Ensure the marketing department is following through on all deliverables for sponsorships, grants, and gifts from a marketing perspective
-
Event support: Seek out opportunities to increase brand reach in the local community. Work with the volunteer department to staff community booths that are not tied to food drives or fundraising activities
Internal Marketing & Communications (20%)

Proactively identify internal communication opportunities across TMFB and develop accurate and concise messaging to support a unified voice across the organization (i.e. key messages related to a campaign)

Draft and/or review communications created by other departments to ensure alignment
-
Based on best practices, identify internal opportunities to create systems for sharing information and the appropriate resources to support the organization (templates, talking points, etc.)

With the Marketing team, host semi-annual Marketing and Communication planning meetings for all departments to plan ahead and project manage through busy seasons. Ensure systems are in place and fully utilized to track and work on future projects
Supervision of Staff (10%)

Direct and supervise the work of the Marketing Coordinator to foster healthy success for TMFB, including:

Hire/terminate, performance evaluation, and training/development

Establish accountabilities and evaluate performance regularly. Translate broad goals into achievable steps. Set and manage appropriate expectations

Education and Experience
-
5-7 years of professional experience in marketing, preferably in a non-profit/charity environment. Previous supervisory experience is an asset

Bachelor’s degree, college diploma, or equivalent education in a related field

Demonstrated experience building and managing integrated marketing campaigns across various direct and digital channels
-
Demonstrated experience using WordPress, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin, YouTube, Google Suite, Mailchimp, Raiser’s Edge, Adobe Creative Suite, project management software

Technical. Tech-savvy. Computer proficiency with strong skills in MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, Google Suite, Mailchimp. TMFB is a cloud-based, paperless environment.

Role Details
Relationships: Reports to the Director of Marketing & Communications with collaboration with all other TMFB teams. Supervises the Marketing Coordinator (full-time, 12-month contract). Outside the organization, the position primarily holds relationships with vendors.
Position Type: Full-time, permanent. Evening and weekend work may be required
Compensation: Starting salary of $62,000 - 67,000.
